PMG Signature Pre has arrived and it sounds amazing

Thanks, I just read the manual. Too bad it’s fixed on RCA 2. No XLR support and a downgrade from the BHK. That’s a bummer.

Not sure what you are referring to, Alex. I couldn’t find the manual via the link you shared but there are multiple XLR inputs and outputs. Am I missing something?

Regards,
Phil

I believe he was referring specifically to the HT bypass operations.

Oh, thanks @scotte1

Nonetheless, I’m interested in the PMG as next upgrade vs the MU2, but I understand there’s no HT pass through option at all with the latter, which would be a problem for me.

I have been thinking about that as well, since my system does double 2.1/7.1 (for video) duty.

I am not looking for a pre-amp per se. Instead my focus is on a streaming/server up grade. My files are split between my iMac (which is almost full) and a wonky Synology NAS, which I have trouble keeping “available” to JRMC and Roon.

The MU1 is looking increasingly attractive but I have grown accustom to the I2S inputs on my “heavily” modified DS Sr. DAC.

Cheers.

No phone or tablet apps available for these devices?

Come again…?

No XLR support for HT bypass mode. Fixed only via RCA 2

It’s been 2 days since any comments on the PMG DAC. What’s going on folks. Has sentiment gone negative in the last two days?

I’ve owned several PSA pieces, and they all required extensive break-in – at least 250 hours, often more. Unless the PMG gear is very different (unlikely), patience is our friend.

Ok. As an interested bystander at the moment, what is the consensus on Silver or Black? All my other PSAudio gear is black (BHK 300s, BHK Pre, P15, Airlens) which I prefer to the silver in those colours. But .. the new PMG gear, I think may look better in silver with this different finish? I haven’t seen in person any of the new PMG series, so would be interested to get a gauge on people’s opinions - especially those that have seen them in person. Black or Silver?

Would also be good to kmow if the silver is not paint but rather the natursl color of the face plate. Thought.I remember hearing that it’s an aluminum faceplate.

The finish looks more brushed solid aluminium.

Gotcha - I don’t know that I would hear the difference between XLR and RCA in the setting of HT bypass whilst watching a movie, but appreciate this is important to you.

Most gear these days have Applications available for phones and tablets that give you control over the audio device. Case in point, the lowly Eversolo DMP-A6, a $900 device has apps for phone and tablet that let you take complete control without a remote.

It is mid 2025, all Audio gear except Turntables should come with phone and tablet applications. Remotes should be safely in the past. Why add another remote to clutter things up when just about every human has a phone.

Gotcha.

I respectfully disagree. I’m not in a rush to pay more for a product in order to cover development and maintenance costs for an app; this stuff is not cheap and must be kept updated. There may also be costs for additional circuitry inside a piece. Greater complexity equals greater potential for failure.

I will make one concession: all my gear except my turntable is from PSA. If I had several pieces from different manufacturers, each with its own remote, I might get annoyed at a pile of remotes.

When I retreat into my listening room, I want to disconnect from all the invasive tech that surrounds me. The last thing I want is another glitchy phone app to deal with. With remotes, you push a button and it’s done. No swiping, no updating, no trouble-shooting, no connection problems. Bedsides, a separate app for each manufacturer’s device is no improvement over having several remotes.

I continue to be amazed how different we all are when it comes to what we think “should” be - myself included.

We will just have to agree to disagree. In my main system I have just one remote. I so prefer it this way. I used to have 5 or 6. Someone thinking that is better is confused.
