PMG Signature SACD Transport has arrived!

I belive the PMG Streamer / DAC is the answer for you.

And perhaps the new PMG 30.6 Power Regenerater. Now in 3D!

Erik, it’s a transport not a player and will not output raw DSD unless connected to an appropriate PSA dac that has been licenced by Sony to permit raw DSD to be decoded.

I can play DSD files from PST (and PMG too I guess) throughout MSB DAC via I2S module. They sound nice.

That is correct, via the I2S output.

I received my PMG SACD transport (black) last week, and finally had the chance to unpacked it. The “Quick Start Guide” does not mention it, but are there transport lock screws which must be loosened/removed prior to powering on and operating the unit?

Owners of the unit, please help advise. Thank you very much!

Cheers, John

No there are not. It should just work for you. That’s why it’s not mentioned in the owner’s manual.

Greetings music lovers, I received my new transport this past Wednesday and have let it percolate for a few days with a disc in repeat mode. All I can say is if Paul’s comment is accurate (“that said, what I wanted to suggest is those differences pale in comparison to the Grand Canyon differences you’ll experience with the preamp, the DAC”) then Lord help us. I find the new transport to be a significant improvement over the PST. The things I most notice is that the sound is much more palpable, coherent, and dynamic (I may have to turn down the volume on the REL subs a notch or two). Simply put, the sound is just more damn engaging and realistic. THANKS TO PAUL AND THE INCREDIBLE ENGINEERS AT PS. Cannot wait to take delivery of the new DAC as well.

PS: I really like the look and feel of it as well. great job

I wouldn’t put unnecessary hrs on the transport mechanism to burn in the unit as there’s a limited supply available for future repairs. Isn’t there a USB input where you can use a thumb drive instead?

This is the way.

thanks Guys, good point. The Mandalorian Rides again

i figured about 75 hours of burn in for the transport mechanism and then switch to the thumb drive.

I may be wrong, but I don’t think the transport mechanism itself, or the laser requires any break-in, I think it’s the circuits and wires within the transport that need time to burn in.

i think you are correct. the thumb drive is a great way to do the electrical break in w/o using the transport mechanism. I had totally not thought of that.

A few observations so far…

I probably don’t have enough hours yet on the PMG SACD, but while there are a number of qualities that are immediately improved over the PST, the PST is no slouch. It’s exhibiting a bit of openness that I’m not quite getting from the PMG. Next, I don’t care for the fact that if the display is turned off, it doesn’t come back to life when touching the display surface - unless that’s a setting I missed. It would be nice if it would come back up and stay engaged for some short period of time, so a disc could be replaced. Things like that. Lastly, the remote. Why are there no number buttons on a remote that’s meant to be able to select tracks on a CD? I’ve got to use the forward and back buttons? Really? What if I have to go to track 17?

Honestly, in all my years I have never used this feature, well, maybe once just to see what the fuss is all about.

The PMG will probably open up as it burns in. I burned in the transport and pre at the same time and they did open up significantly over about 200 hrs, but of course I can’t say how much for each one.

I have a test disk for bass that has 99 tracks. Fortunately, after initial set up it is not used much.

Tell me, how do you like using that remote to get to, say, track 47? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: :face_with_spiral_eyes:

You have to really want the remote. You have to BE the remote.

I typically buy 100 SACDs per year before my streaming years, now I only buy 20 to 30 per year the most. Still, I listen to streaming more, and SACDs become unfamiliar to me. I noticed that I do not use numbers on the new remote like I used too since every SACD sounds new to me.

Now I got PMG SACD/512 I want to listen to my collection more, they do sound better than streaming.

Wait! There is no number on the new remote?

Wait, what, 47 tracks? So you are listening to kids CDs with 50 tracks at 90 seconds each?!?

Hey, Jerry is the one with the 99 track CD! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
