Most anticipated is likely the term for a variant of the same type of product. Perhaps, it’s better to speak of longest awaited, as in the meantime we were anticipating e.g. the DS MK2 and the FR30/20 - and they’re there as actual orderable products.
That waiting time should be over shortly, shouldn’t it?
I’m still waiting. My guess is mid-summer. It will complete my system until the TSS is released. Hoping that parts shortage doesn’t compromise performance. Haven’t bought a temporary replacement. Still using Bridge II.
I’m using a Lumin T2 as my streamer/ digital transport. The main reason I’d like to switch is to be able to connect directly to my DS DAC through i2s. And the galvanic isolation.
Indeed, we have been waiting a long time for a replacement for the Bridge II. Those who (like me) use the Bridge as their main source of listening are eager for the AirLens, partly for the sonic improvements that galvanic isolation and other updates will provide, and partly because we will be able to play DSD beyond 64. But I suspect that a larger percentage of users rely on USB, and for them the AirLens is not relevant, particularly with the improvements to the USB input in the DS Mark II.
I like the sound of the Airlens but are PS Audio a little late to the game here or are they ahead of the curve in producing a streamer with Galvanic isolation instead of adding solutions like an EtherREGEN and the multiple DDC’s now available?
My observation is that “its a little bit of both”.
I expect the AirLens will be a great product, but it will now be swimming in a pretty crowded pool…with the possible advantage of it being more or less designed to excel with PSA DACs.
Agreed. Had it come out two years ago I think it would have been more of a game changer. Others have caught up, and there are now other devices that can do high rate DSD and offer I2S out (for those who want it). The AL may be good, maybe even great, but it’ll be a little late to the party. Still, many of us PSA supporters continue to wait……
If the Airlens can match (or best) my Sonore, I sell that and use the left over credit to help fund Airlens and cleanup cables and DDC etc… Looking forward to this tryout.
There is some polarity in the industry towards or against USB. Paul was very much against it, understandable given he used a computer (Mac Mini) source for a long time, in fact until PSA bought a couple of Innuos Zenith Mk3.
I’ve never used a computer, I started streaming in 2009 with a product called ZoneRipper, they are still around and dramatically improved. I’ve either used USB or ethernet.
Innuos do USB really well from Zen upwards, because there is a dedicated linear power supply for the USB sockets and there is the option to use CAT as the data link if your system supports that approach. (The Zen Mini is not so good as the linear power is optional and external.)
So the Mk2 DAC should be at the top of its game for Innuos Zen, Zenith and Statement owners using USB.
The top-of-the-line new Innuos product, the Pulsar, is actually optimised for USB, but it seems to be delayed due to parts supply issues.
Innuos does DSD over DoP, I have no idea to what data rates.
I’ve lost my broadband because of the rubbish telecoms infrastructure here in London that was first built by the Romans. It has been intermittent for 3 weeks and down the last 2 days. Just signed up for a fibre cable service that does not rely on the old exchanges and copper cabling and the basic service is about 500 mb/s. Should be installed in a few days. I wonder if that will make any difference.
Hopefully will - I still have my old VDSL copper link, son, on the other hand, has a 1 Gb/s fibre link.
It is far superior, when I have large downloads I swap onto his wired network for ten times faster downloads
…plus, of course, the old copper lines are slated for decommission in the next very few years (a bad idea IMHO but I understand why they want to).
I’m pretty sure the Romans built the Finchley Exchange. I read on the Openreach website that it’s about to be upgraded in the next year (make that two years more likely) to 1gbs fibre. My street is not done yet and currently 0 gbs is no fun.
What are these devices? I’m interested. The main reason I’m waiting for the AL is so that I can use the digital transport with the DS DAC through i2s and up to DSD256.
I have a Lumin T2 streamer right now that does up to DSD512; it has a built in DAC (very good) but I expect the AL/DSDAC combo will surpass it.
