My feeling too!!! I thought, here we go, @Paul is going to give us a nice teaser of what to expect, it got to be really close now…
My jaw dropped, it’s out now and doing well and go to the website. Incoming AirLens!!! Scramble to the website, darn not there.
@Paul, given things are so close, is it now possible for you to say whether the AirLens will support double rate DSD and MQA @352Khz over the I2S output? Very much looking forward to AirLens day!!
Try an external power supply for your Node 2 or 3 , it brings great improvement to Node sound. Also make sure your cable/wifi router has got a low noise linear power supply instead of the tiny switching box. It helps even you use galvanic separation or reclocking later in the chain. My Node feeds a Gustard X26Pro and surprises me now everyday with unbelievable depth and details.
As a node 2i user you totally piqued my interest? What external power supply are you using?
I use the one from PDCreative in Poland , just about 70 bucks for the board . They also offer power supply itself for about 150.- . In US there is a company called Teddy Pardo if I recall right. Just aks aunt Google for Node and external power supply . Highly recommended, just Caps inside the Node, no HF noise from switching hacks.
I doubt this is the case but since it did cross my mind I’ll ask the question. Could the AirLens possibly use the Conversdigital mconnect hardware module for all the protocol translations and PSA proprietary tech. for the galvanic isolation between input and output? Might offer a faster time to market this way.
Thanks I’ll look into it!
For an exaSound DAC, I have a 12V Teddy Pardo LPS from Israel, not the US. Works fine. I also have a Keces with dual 12V out for my switch and 5V out for a RPi4-based streamer. Like these a lot.
Does removing the Bridge II alter the sound of the Directstream Dac. Want to get the A Capella III streamer to attach to the i2s connection. Was going to leave the Bridge II connected but recall reading somewhere that removing it improves the sound from the DSD.
In the Matrix thread, there are quite a few comments about the Directstream sounding better with the Bridge removed and some saying they found no difference. I removed it from mine but didn’t notice any change in the sound.
Two answers… not sure if they were answered already as I was catching up on this thread:
Can I just use Qobuz app? No. Qobuz does not have a native “connect” in their app. Or, put another way, the ability to send a stream from their service to a “player” or “transport”. Spotify has Spotify Connect and Tidal now has Tidal Connect. Without this native functionality, the streamer needs a native app. Or you need to use something like Roon.
Will AirLens have an app? Short answer is “no” (per PS) but things change. For sure, server is gone so there will be no PS Audio “native” library management. However, they could still, possibly, release a thin application to stream from Qobuz and others that don’t have any native support in their apps to send a stream directly to the transport. Native is important for “bit perfect” playback. This is where Tidal may have an advantage but then you’re dealing with MQA to get the most out of those streams.
There’s a new Mexican ice cream they’re selling at our Kroger. Helado toasted coconut. It may be my new favorite, although Blue Bell caramel with mini rolos in it is pretty close. I score it 14/10. Highly recommended.
Native Qobuz “connect” is such a needed capability. Using native streaming service apps offers myriad advantages over using third party apps or even Roon.
I assume it’s a resource issue; Qobuz development staff is appropriately small.
Note: the Chromecast capability in the Qobuz apps doesn’t qualify as native.
In a previous reply it has been mentioned that with Apple airplay the Airlens should connect with Qobuz.
Until the AL is either available or PSA publishes a final design doc, we are all merely speculating.
Keep calm and carry on.
Understood and I think I was unclear.
I was referring to the model where the tablet, phone or computer acts as a remote and the AirLens (or other device) would stream directly from Qobuz servers.
Anyone know what price point this thing will be? I just discovered that I have $1200 in credits at PSA! It’s raining money.
I use a Lumin T2 currently with Roon. Can someone summarize why the Airlens replace my T2?
I guess it would have to available first to replace your Lumin. Right now its just placebo.
