PS Audio AirLens

I am cross posting this from the Roon forum. Many of us can now see on our horizon what John is posting. Keeping in mind his opening paragraph as you read the rest of his post it is so clear how important this hobby is to his and our collective quality of life.

Taking into context what seems to me the tight coupling of the AirLens and Roon, I hope folks like John and many of us will find a deeper connection to our music.

Hyuio

This is probably too late in the game but hope there is a way to hook DC directly to the unit. bypassing the unit PSU. There are so many linear power supplies out there to play with.

Yeah I loved that post when I first saw it

Wish we had trade in offers here in Australia

Sorry @Paul , I would not like to have triggered the world revolt but one of the reasons of the forum should also be to give voice to the needs of customers, with a constructive spirit of course

Absolutely. I have no problem with that. We all need a voice and we all need to be heard.

It is too late in the game. The PSU is built in. Plus, one must remember that part of the AirLens is this PSU which has to have two separate isolated supplies in order to work. It’s one of the more complicated of the circuits inside and would have required two linear PSU to be plugged in externally.

not to get picky but are they toroidal PSU’s?

It’s a very quiet SMPS.

I had a feeling for that price not going to get two toroidal. If you say they are quiet, i believe.

Will the AirLens be able to control volume through DLNA if the DAC has digital volume control available? Right now I can use JRiver to connect to an Ultrarendu and the volume control in JRiver works on my Wyred 4 Sound 10th Anniversary DAC. The I2S input on the W4S is supposed to be the same as the PS Audio pin out.

So if I currently stream to either my Sonore opticalRendu or my Chord 2go/2yu over fiber optic cable (Chord uses a Sonore opticalModule Deluxe to convert the fiber to Cat6), will there be any benefit to upgrading one of those streamers to a AirLens since the fiber optic cable provides galvanic isolation?

I have the same question, but I have DS DAC so the I2S out of the Airlens makes sense for me. But in your case does the Chord have an I2S input? if not probably does not make sense for you.

I suggest to take a look at the thread “wishing upcoming PSA DS MK II”. Ted last post can be revelatory…

Can a DLNA client connect through Air Lens and have access to digital volume control if the DAC has that capability? I would like to be able to use volume control in Jriver and have that passed through the digital interface to the DAC.

Since I just want to stream music with out the use of a computer and roon and want to keep things simple I purchased a Nuprime Stream 9 that is just a streamer with no dac and has I2S out into DS JR. After only 9 hours of break in along with a new Dragon hdmi cable it sounds way better than my Node. I’m guessing will sound even better as the cable breaks in. Bring on DS MKII.

That unit does what the airlens will, but airlens adds the isolation.

I was looking at that unit too but is it roon ready?

Airlens is not a streamer and requires a computer of some sort as Paul stated. I don’t want to use a computer. I wish the Airlens would fit my needs but found a good alternative. Can’t wait for DS MKII.
