Qobuz DSD download

I think you are correct. If the above link that I posted earlier does actually send dsd out over dop, it might be limited to dsd64 and not be able to do dsd256.

That would be a dealbreaker for me and DSD if true. I haven’t tried it obviously, but seems like I should be able to access DSD through the Eversolo to the MKll with a good USB cable. I haven’t used USB since I replaced my Audioquest Carbon with the excellent sounding Benchmark SPDIF cable a few months ago. If I were limited to using the Eversolo build in DAC with DSD I think I would just stick with streaming through the MKll as I’m doing now.

It sounds really good with the A6 DAC.
It sounds way, way, way better with the MU2 DAC.

I bet that MU2 does sound phenomenal from all the accolades it’s gotten around these parts. Everyone who has listened to it seems to love it. I know you are not a fan of the MKll (you once told me it was trouble) but my experience with it has been great. Best that I never taste DACs in that price bracket as I wouldn’t feel comfortable spending that kind of money and I’m pretty satisfied with my MKll. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

Happy cake day wijber! And thanks for the Qobuz link, I either didn’t notice that or I’m not subscribed to the Qobuz Club ā€œnewsletterā€œ. The DSD list is a little disappointing right now, presumably it will grow exponentially in the next few months.

Happy Cake Day!!

Ok, heck I tried. I grabbed IRobot at dsd 64 cause i grew up with that. Probably should of got Rumors or a jazz selection.

The file sounded great but not a smidgon better than the Qobuz Hi res version. They were also both at similar 5k bps rates. In fact, i liked the streaming version a bit more.

This cant be the case across the board or you guys would not be buying this stuff.

Poor file/example?
Only 64 bit?
No dedicated DAC? (Using ESS Sabre Pro in Rose)

Now, that is interesting. I can see threads in the future on this subject. How do Hi res and DSD compare on the same piece of music. There is a lot of variability for sure. Overall, I’ve been quite happy with Hi res. Especially with higher sampling rates. I have a collection of Stereophile magazines going way back and I was looking back into issues from the 90s when DVD Audio was thought to be the next big thing. The thoughts back then were that 24/96 was the be all and end all of digital audio. We all know how that turned out but they were right about 24/96- it can sound wonderful.

Thank you for the comment. Great point on previous thoughts as indicated in Stereophile.

I think ill start a thread and see what the general consensus is.

I jumped from a non-pro ESS Sabre chip in a Panasonic 4k blu ray disc player to the FPGA based MU2, and yes, a really good DAC does make a stark difference in openness and clarity and smoothness, but chances are in this case is just the particular music chosen. Your hifi rose should be good enough to discern differences. The good thing is downloading and transferring to a usb flash drive works. You can always find more music to download.

Not sure how far into the DAC forest ill need to run.

But yeah, maybe ill grab a 128 or 256 next time just for grins and see how that goes. The Rose had no issue recognizing and playing the file.

I bought three DSD64 to tryout from Qobuz:
0828765247221_300
0886443610545_300
kl910z00gcmbb_300

No question they sounded superior to Qobuz streaming (from my internal SSD).

One thing you should know is unlike Hi-res. downloads that you can download other lesser quality files also. If you buy DSD that would be the only format you will get, and you cannot download any other type.
