Qobuz vs Tidal

For what it’s worth I have noticed higher sample rates for many albums on Qobuz. I think the sound diff I am hearing my rig does not do full MQA, just what roon can. Does that diminish the sound from Tidal? I don’t know. I do knowni think sound is crisper for what ever reason.

I still find myself frustrated when an album isn’t available via the streaming service I happen to be using, currently TIDAL.

I have not renewed Tidal because I listened to Qobuz 90% of the time in the past year. Their music library seems to grow to the level that matches Tidal. Qobuz offers more hi-resol. music for my taste for sure.

I checked today and Tidal has a lot of music I have and love locally on my NAS that Qobuz doesn’t have. Interesting. I’m keeping both but choosing to be uppity about Qobuz.

Isn’t it freeing and refreshing to fully embrace one’s own foibles and biases?

[And, the first step is admitting there is a problem.]

When I switched over to Qibuz, there were a few selections that did not make it. I’ll be uppity about Qobuz as well but keep Spotify. Mainly cause I am on a Duo plan and my son loves it. Fidelity to him is of little concern but he listens to more music than anyone I know.

I do enjoy the spotify Playlist. In fact at the moment I’m listening to one named “Not Quite Classical” I’m not a classical guy but I really like this. Ill find more like it and maybe develop a taste for a different genre.

In TIDAL, I’m seeing some albums (on Deutsche Grammophon / Universal) previously in MQA that are now 16/44.

Someone check this for me if you have a moment.

I’m a solid 75% certain these two albums plus more in my TIDAL collection were MQA until very recently.

I recall both albums are 24/96 or better on Qobuz.

yep, MQA evaporating

It really weirds me out the number of very knowledgeable and informed people who fell for this MQA stuff. Oh well.

I don’t hear it. Perhaps I just don’t want to.

lossy by nature, and a bit of plastic in there

As a general rule I don’t hear that.

FWIW.

I am pretty much over this music thing anyway.
I see it as a fad I may have outgrown.

Hi End audio is gambling. Betting on the next best thing will make things better, and hoping the addiction is worth the investment. Got…to…have…it.

But keep it safe. Only gamble on your phone in the safety of your own couch.

I’ll take any DAC , amp or source . If Al owns it, it’s probably pretty dang good.

You can make a small fortune in sports gambling. Mostly cause you’ll start with a large one.

The Mrs. and I are really on the outs. I built a large garage up at our lake place and she just cannot live another day with that dumb snowmobile in that garage. The fact that she has no need to ever go in that garage for any reason doesn’t weigh in on the severity of her suffering.

Imagine being 67 years old, and having to deal with such things!!

I gotta get out of this place, if it’s the last thing I ever do.

If anyone adopts me, my system(s) come with. Six complete audio systems, one complete video system, 3 small bunnies. And a lot of questionable music.

Will you include the snow machine?
