Any recommendations for connecting the M700 pair to the PP3? I’m currently running the PP3 with a PS Audio Stellar Preamp, Phono, Chord TT2 with M Scaler, and Matrix NT1 Streamer. I recently bought a PS Audio AC5, which I’m using on the PP3, along with two AC3 cables for the M700 amps. Would it be better to use the AC3s on the Preamp and Phono amps instead?
Each of the M700’s consume 23 watts of power when fully on and idle, for a total of 46 watts for the pair. I don’t think I ever used more wattage, as the speakers I had at the time were 96db efficient.
I run all my equipment (PerfectWave SACD Transport, Stella GainCell Dac/Pre, NAD FM Tuner and a pair of M700 power amps) on regen on my P3. Never had a hiccup, ever. And I’m powering Magnepan’s LRS speakers which are not particularly efficient.
Magnepan rates the sensitivity of the LRS at 86dB/500Hz/1m/2.83V, but independent measurements have put its sensitivity at closer to 80dB and require a good shot of power to get it up on its feet and dancing.
I am curious about plugging amps into a smaller power regenerator. I have m1200s and eventually want to get a p12 but have heard mixed reviews of plugging them directly into the wall vs into the p12.
The M1200’s can go directly into the P12. I had that setup and they worked nicely together. They use a little more wattage than the M700’s but are still only 27 watts per channel, or 54 per pair of monoblocks. The M1200’s sounded better plugged into the P12 regenerator versus plugged directly into the wall.
My current amplifier is a Mark Levinson No 534, which uses 350 watts with speakers driven at reasonably low volume levels. The 534 sounded better directly to the power outlet versus connected to the P12. I now have the 534 amp, and my entire system, powered by a Gryphon PowerZone, and the amp and full system seem happy this way.
Thanks for the insight. No power zone in my near future ![]()
Forgot to mention use FR5 Bookshelves and F12 Sub
Thanks!
