I had come to same or similar conclusion as the author of this review, namely, that the sum of the two (the DMP and the DSD) is considerably greater than its parts. I got to retest this recently, too, in an audition of another DAC that comes with a rave review from a favorite reviewer. While there was much to like about it, the new DAC’s performance with the DMP (via digital coaxial or XLR) was just not in the same league as the DSD combined with the DMP (over I2S).
