Hey, if Paul is going to allow for beta testing, I’m putting my bid in right behind Al!
No your ahead of me. Lol.
And no fries. I was just asking. It’s what some SACD players have as features. I am sure weather or not it has the list Paul, did look into having it.
Also if it streams does it do dsd 128 ? lol.
Arcus7 said Great news, Paul! And very a good occasion to replace my pre-owned PWT I, which still has the old “pale” display that is pretty hard to read from a distance…
One question still: Will the PWT II also play DVD-Audio discs?
That’s a great question I do not know the answer to. If the Oppo does then we do since it is based on their drive mechanism.
bruces said I have two questions about the PWT mark II.Firstly, when can we expect it to be available, ballpark of course?
Secondly, will the NuWave DSD be able to do the decoding for SACD?
As a bit of an after thought, do you have any preliminary pictures?
Thanks.
Bruce
Ballpark we will do a decent size public beta test in October.
The NuWave DSD will not be able to decode the player’s output - at least not as of this writing. Only the DirectStream will be able to.
1234 said I have a few questions. Will the new PWT also be a network streamer , meaning no Ned for a computer at all and it will fond any nas drives on the network ?
Will,it stream to the new bridge over a network ?
will,it have Ipad connectivity ?
How much is msrp ? Will there be a beta test group ? If so that I would like to be in if allowed .
Any pics available
regardimg netwprk server even if it only serves the DS it’s still a complete standalone setup now. I know maybe at this price point it may not be possible but I am sking and happy to read of this new product.
I also am fine and understand it not being an upgrade from old one . All,of my several hundred SACD are ripped and the disks are put away too. And of course many hundred cd,s too. It is nice to put a disk in like playing vinyl lol. But I do want complet control from my phone or iPad. I hope, this is in the works. The new bridge is a pleasure and works flawless. Jriver finds all of my nas drives very cool.
I am happy for you and your company to stay up on new products we need , nice to see a complete line of products to stack up. I’ll post some pics tonight of things so far all ps audio , it’s a boatload of stuff , pretty cool to look at.
The new Transport will have no internet streaming capabilities.
It will have 3 I2S outputs where you can connect DirectStream DAC(s) to get multi-channel audio in pure DSD.
There will not be iPad connectivity because it’s a transport. Control will be through its remote. It will have the touch screen, cover art and song info on the screen as does the PWT1
MSRP should be $4,999.
The picture will look just like the PWT 1, except for a USB input slot on the front. This will allow you to connect a USB drive and play music like a streamer does. It can handle most any size USB drive, but we recommend keeping the drive small since scrolling through the library on the drive will be restricted to the front panel touch screen and that’s got limited space to display tracks and it’s not lightning fast. I picture the front panel USB input as a courtesy input - someone has a bunch of tracks on a thumbdrive, bring 'em on!
lonson said It would be wonderful if there's an upgrade trade-in program as with the DS.Your wish is my command.
October release, eh? Hmmm, that seems like a long time to wait … buttttt … that’s a while to save up for it! Now as for the beta test, I seem to recall starting a topic on what fellow forum members would like in a new PWT … 18 months ago! I even suggested it be like an Oppo, wow, I’m prescient! Great minds think alike, right Paul! (Cough, cough … Who IS this guy?)
Thanks Paul, that pushes this into “I might actually be able to get this” category from “I’ll just be happy with the previous version.” As I bought two of those when I was flush, and one is in storage, I did myself a favor! Also tipping me towards this is that you remark that Redbook is improved. Oh boy.

In a way (for me at least) that’s good. I need to recover from my recent turntable purchase.

The Oppo DVD and Blu-ray players have long been universal players that support just about any, if not all disc formats. The BDP-103 supports
BD-Video, Blu-ray 3D, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, AVCHD, SACD, CD, HDCD, Kodak Picture CD, CD-R/RW, DVD±R/RW, DVD±R DL, BD-R/RE
The catch is that I think that it is the Firmware that allows it to play all of these disc formats, not just the physical drive. For instance, my original Oppo DVD player had a problem with DVD-Audio that took a firmware update to correct, and they push out some firmware updates that are to fix a problem with a specific Blu-ray movie.
If PS Audio is getting both the physical drive AND the firmware that Oppo uses in their Blu-ray players, then it should handle DVD-Audio, and HDCD. Given that PS Audio will have their own Firmware/OS, does that mean that it will have two sets of firmware that can be updated separately. One from PS Audio and one from Oppo?
I would love to see the PWT II support any kind of disc that has audio on it.

My EC multiplayer can do DVD-A and it is Oppo 103 based.
All the features 1234 requests can be done by my Rockna player, inclusive of remote control point (e.g. Monkeymote), but it is double price.
It cannot play SACD discs though and that is maybe a real deal breaker (it can play BD-R discs with dsd files but no SACD ISO).
As you all probably know by now, the PWT was (partly) designed by Rockna and it feeds the DS via I2s.

I have an Android app for my Oppo Blu-ray players that replicates remote control functions, and one for my Squeezebox Touch that replicates the control functions and display with cover art. My tablet does not have an IR blaster, so I can only assume that these apps communicate with the equipment through the Ethernet connection.
Since the PWT I and II have an internet connection for downloading songs lists and cover art, it would seem that apps could be written to replicate the remote control functions and display. My PWT I sits far enough away that I can’t read the artist and song title from where I sit. It would be great to have an app on my tablet that would let me see what is on the display.
It would also be nice to have a web interface that can control the PWT and DS DAC like you have for controlling the P5 and P10.
I’ll second the request for an ethernet control path. If the device has an Ethernet connection then these days it really should have ethernet control point capability too. Yes, it does require some processing capacity, but it should not be all that much. Even medium power microprocessors are dirt cheap these days, and most any digital device has to have one to begin with - just scale up a step ot two in power if necessary to get a DLNA or similar integrated into the unit.
After all, PS Audio’s tag line, copied right off of their web page is: “HIGH END CONNECTED HOME ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCTS”
J.P.
Add me to the list of people who would like to see iPad remote control.
I think iPad/iPhone remote control is the future.
Would still like to see a standard IR control as well though.

Paul,
Will the new PWT II work with an existing PWD, although without DSD capability? I’d love to get the new transport and have it work with my PWD II since I’ve yet to save up for the DS.
David Schwartz, I’m sure the PWT II will work fine with a PWD. The only thing that won’t work would be SACD outputting as DSD and any other recorded media (e.g., DVD-R) with a DSD file. In those cases I assume you would get nothing, i.e., I don’t think there is an option to convert the DSD to PCM. If you are looking for a long term player that would probably be your best bet rather than a current PWT, assuming of course, that you plan on eventually getting a DS DAC. I’m sure Paul will chime at some point to confirm or deny.

Hope I am not out of line in saying this, but if it were me I would focus on getting a DS before this new PWT 2. That’s just me, but I know how mind blowingly good the DS is.

Yes, as others have mentioned, of course. We intend the new transport to be compatible with any DAC out there. You just lose the DSD capability.
