But…I thought it was to be new and improved…Us old timers like to see what we hear and’ see’… in real time. Nothing is written in stone,is it?
Paul.jump in here. you are the boss.
The hardware is completly new, just the interface is going to look like the original transport, that is what I have been told to do.

mark-d saidRandom play should be disabled and declared illegal by international treaty as an aesthetic judgment.Paul. Any chance of 'random play' and 'elapsed time' [single song, fore and aft...and total time 'left on album'] in the new transport... in a large display...to be seen... from across the room?
I am completely agnostic about time displays - as long as I can turn them off/blank the screen.
The idea of replacing my old SACD player with a PWT 2 is very intriguing, since I would get better SQ from CDs I haven’t ripped yet as well as from SACDs. Due to distance and angle, it’s hard to see details on the displays on most of my equipment, including the DS, from my listening chair. (I don’t currently own a PWT but I think the display is the same size as the DS.) So:
Since the PWT 2 will already be internet-connected, it would seem not terribly difficult to include a very basic control app. I don’t care about fancy graphics; anything that replicates the front panel would be better than nothing. Perhaps such an app could include things like elapsed time, which is not a priority for me, if there was a little more space available.
If that’s not possible, I would like to see reasonably large fonts on the display. I know it’s a small screen, but please do what you can.
I have never understood what people use randomization for, but that’s just me.
I always liked random play when it was available. It always brings a new perspective to what the album has to offer. I tend to listen to a album, start to finish, and random play can break up the monotony of listening to an album in a familiar manner. It’s almost like a new album at times.
Just like cutting up a movie and randomly moving the resulting pieces around.
It will, admittedly, be different.

Elk. I don’t watch movies much. They bore me to tears. Now great music,in any form or manner…is really what I am about.
Random play makes absolutely no sense for classical music and other structued works. It can generally work for ‘pop’ music from most any generation, but even then, the track order on many albums is carefully considered. Random play does make sense for a personally burned compilation. All that said, the cost of adding random playback is basically insignificant, especially on a device like tha PWT (II) with soft controls. You certainly do not have to use it if you don’t want to.
As for the display, nothing in this world is above improvement. Since this is a new product, even if it is a second generation, why not look into whatever improvements can be made? I vote for improved readability at a distance, as very few of us sit within a few feet of our equipment when listening - with the exception of headphone users.

“Random play makes absolutely no sense for classical music and other structued works.”
I agree. I very rarely listen to classical unless it’s background music on my fm tuner…
Perhaps random play, but can’t change the screen size. The latest versions of firmware for the video screen does have large numbers that can be seen across the room, so that’s something.
Absolutely correct, J.P. My objection to random play is conceptual only; while to me it is anathema there is no downside to providing it as a feature for those philistines who will use it.
And if the PWT can be improved in any way it should be considered, especially if it likely can be accomplished with hopefully relatively straightforward programming - like providing a large display upon selection of a time function. The change to the DS which displays the volume in senior citizen text works well and, hopefully, was not too tricky to implement.

mark-d said Elk. I don't watch movies much. They bore me to tears.Interesting. Me, too. We are pretty rare. I literally get bored and start looking for something to read.
Now I know there are at least two of us who have zero interest in a home theater.
Elk,so true. I do have a home theater system in a separate room, and a very good one at that. My wife loves movies a lot more than myself.Every time she insists that we watch a movie together,I of course, being the loving husband, oblige her. But I swear,it ain’t more than ten minutes into the film and I’m already looking at my watch wondering what that new cd would sound like instead of wasting time on another senseless film geared more to mindless idiots looking for a quick fix of stupid is stupid does. They just don’t make movies like they use to…Music rules!
Paul McGowan said Perhaps random play, but can't change the screen size. The latest versions of firmware for the video screen does have large numbers that can be seen across the room, so that's something.I would welcome larger track numbers that can be read from across the room, as I would sometimes like to check out the liner notes for a particular track while it is playing. Any chance that you could post a screen shot showing the larger track numbers? Might as well take advantage of some feedback (positive or negative) before getting too far down the road.
I second the request on developing an app that can control the new transport and preferably replicate the display, and perhaps even provide more information than the touch screen. Tablets certainly have larger screens and higher resolution than the touch screen display. Even my new phone has a larger display.
Looks like we may need a forum request list for the new transport coming soon. The top three requests…win.
I have no problems with the way the PWT is now (and I don’t use phones or laptops etc. with my stereo) so I just want them to concentrate on sound quality and the SACD handshaking’!
