Is this real?
I bought about 25 SACDs and a few CDs from Octave Records since early 2024 and really hope that the SACDs I Ordered last month aren’t the last ones …

Yup, i wanted lp`s or CD, but not for the north pole, they don’t allow it! maybe the Canadian distributor again…
I was browsing somewhat more through the Octave Records catalog and noticed that for some albums the vinyl pressings are available outside the USA. It looks like only the SACDs aren’t available anymore…
I know that a lot of you guys prefer higher quality DSD downloads, but I’m just a sucker for physical media and I really like SACDs.
I hope it’s temporary.
@Paul , could you please shine a light on this?
huh, Where Lp’s?
thanks, I had to use Sherlock Homes Magnifying glass and ask “octave lp” to found them.
most are gone, but i ordered a few…!
Wooh, CAD dollars goes the drain,
33% lost value exchange,
and prefer don’t think about the tx & custom rate, ouch!
but thanks, I didn’t buy my PS phono stage to listen some old pop record!
now the waiting start…
ps there is others that are interesting, but no 180gr only red book download
and when i buy digital, I transfer them in CD, because computer crash and with the new windows 12, “pay per use”, well, let’s get physical media!
Regrettably, the availability of SACDs is declining worldwide as manufacturing plants disappear. Sony DADC in Austria and Japan and Sonopress in Germany continue pressing discs for release labels, but SACD is increasing a niche product with somewhat stable but declining volumes.
Yes, I know. However, as long as I can buy SACDs for a reasonable price, I’ll stick to them. In the end I guess the only physical media remaining will be vinyl and CDs. B.t.w. I did rip some of my SACDs and play these ripped files from my old Mac mini connected to the Strata mk2 using an USB to I2S converter. That sounds good and it’s also quite convenient, but then it feels like streaming and so far the process of selecting an SACD, CD, LP or cassette, placing it in the “player”, walking back the the sofa and enjoying the music gives me a nice feeling ![]()
Also, I’m just wondering: aren’t the majority of Octave Records SACDs sold in the USA? if that’s the case and international orders are a minority, then this measure makes no sense to me… Then again, somebody from PS audio surely will have a perfectly logical explanation.
The shipping costs are killing us. Let me see if there isn’t a better way to get this handled so everyone has access.
Thanks for the answer Paul, but then I guess the shipping cost from the US to The Netherlands are higher than the $15 you charge me for shipping my orders. I don’t know the complete shipping cost, but wouldn’t mind to pay more than that $15 … ![]()
Isn’t a European distributor willing to pick this up as a side hussle? Shipping can be combined with that of devices.
presently paperwork as increase a lot, discouraging lot of small business!
With respect,
Example,
my order is on the way,
just for Canadian [poor dollar, huge custom fee and taxes], you take the US selling price x 2 + 5% and you will be about right for what it will cost you in the end
I understand more, why the preference is for download
I did this purchase because:
next one will be download, so, till rule change for shipping, I won’t do it again for anything that come from USA. Rest of the world is Ok, for now, to expensive for me.
Sorry Paul, I understand, it is not really you fault.
Thanks for looking into this Paul. I can only add to the numbers of people who are gutted. Suggestions:
Pass on the full cost of shipping to us the consumer
Maybe use someone like Acoustic Sounds to ship internationally
Many thanks
Just as a further note: My last order from you 5 SACD’s shipping cost $35. As a comparison 2 LPs from Acoustic Sounds (this month) which are bigger and heavier $30.15. Both shipments from the US to the UK so I’m a bit perplexed as to why the shipping costs overseas are killing you.
Ok, let me rethink this. I hate the idea of not making Octave releases available worldwide.
I use to order 5 to 10 lp’s or CD, so shipping cost make more sense, but then, there all sort of fee that appear.
I know, analogue production, has a way to decrease the fee, but I don’t remember how they did it
For you guy, are you ordering in a batch or 1 or 2 at a time, to pass under the radar?
thanks for any help, that you provide
best regards
today, the up prime is for canadian:
So for a bundle of records
So for my order of 208$US, a bundle of records to ship in Canada, it will cost in additional fee:
20$ shipping, it was ship in 2 orders! [thanks for not double charge shipping]
94$ PayPal fee and exchange rate at time of purchase! (14% rate exchange charge)
67$ taxes, collected Canadian Government
25$ + 25$ by DHL, since they manage 2 orders and duty paperworks
For a
231$ Sub-total in adding fee
plus
208$ actual cost for LP’s purchase
=
Grand total is: 439$CAD for a US purchase! I understand, why it’s killing business!
So per album, it cost: 63$, that is still market price[39$ to 59 Azon, they have a way…? or Presto Music jazz/classic (but a longer wait for order)] here for album! and those are very good Album!
In the end, happy with the album, but the process a kind of a pain! but i understand the process!
I’ve asked our president to look into it. We might simply be able to restrict some countries (like Dubai) that are constant pains in the butt to ship to, where most other countries aren’t too bad.
Stay tuned.
Just a follow up on this Paul. Your website also detects me from outside the US and blocks me from ordering SACDs even if I have a work collegue in the US who I would have them delivered to. So I want to buy them, I want them delivered within the US but I still can’t buy them ![]()
