Show Us Your Turntable

I was very happy with my Mani until I replaced it with my SPP. Now that I can experience the difference I wonder what I was thinking.

Easier said than done, unfortunately.

Right now, I’m looking at having to get a new roof for the house, and am really wanting to go with metal. I discovered a few very small, very slow leaks with this last batch of rain we had, but luckily there’s no soft spots on the roof, so no wood will have to be replaced.

I was lucky in the purchase right down to the monthly installments that the seller accepted and I understood for $2k was I was getting.

Yes, the items are all 34 yrs. old including the Benz Micro that came with it. But having just $500 of his own money to have LMC in Scottsdale do a full service on the table due to the fact it wasn’t used in 20 years. Was a bonus.

Thank you for the link. It was a very informative article.

I put a metal roof on my cabin 6 years ago. I strongly, Strongly recommend doing this. It is actually quieter in the rain. And it comes with a 50 year warranty. Noice!

I wonder what would happen if you put proper footers between the roof and the steel?

Love the Technics Turntable by the way. Those guys ruled for a long, long time.

Well maintained. Technics are a warhorse IMO, having an original SL-1800 in the office. Still holds its speed.

For the price, you stole it. Nice job!

The previous owner knew it too. But he gave me the deal knowing I wouldn’t flip the entire rig for a profit. Basically selling it to me cause he knew I’d appreciate it.

Really interesting podcast episode of “History of Rock Music in 500 Songs”

This week is Hey Jude. I’m on a bit of a Beatles kick because of it.

The newest addition to my stable of decks. This one is all new.

An Acoustic Signature Maximus NEO. TA-2000 NEO tonearm (SME mount). Sumiko Starling MC cart. A number of upgrades. The 24V Sbooster BOTW P&P ECO MKII LPS to replace the stock switching power supply. Funk Firm Achromat (5 mm) to replace the stock (and weird) leather mat. A Stable 33.33 SP record weight (beautifully machined, natural finish, complements the deck perfectly). Analysis Plus Low Mass Oval Phono Cable (I love the small cross-section and high flexibility of this cable for routing under the deck). Finally, plugging into a Cary Audio VT500 all tube phono stage (well, with SUTs for MC mode, a very nice outboard tube rectified PSU that I have a NOS bugle boy running in).

First, the build quality of this German deck is fantastic. Second, it loves these upgrades (the Sbooster LPS is even certified compatible with the Maximus NEO). It has a compact footprint and above all, an amazing and somewhat surprising warm presentation I was not expecting. The folks at Acoustic Signature are producing some mighty fine analog hardware. Heck, I’m only playing around with the lower end of their range of decks to boot.

Not turntable or audio related whatsoever, but…

There will be a metal roof on house by the end of the week!

Because of this, I had to get a $20k loan, not to mention last month our mortgage went up $800 a month because we have the insurance tied in with it (the stupid insurance is what went up $800 a month!), and yesterday I just flushed $1100 down the drain because we were having plumbing issues that needed to be resolved asap.

I’m just glad I was able to purchase audio gear that I really wanted this past year, gear that will probably be my “end-game” gear as they say. As it stands, I have no desire to upgrade anything. The only things I would like to upgrade is the phono pre at some point, dedicated 20 amp lines in the room, and upgrade the crossovers in my Maggie 1.7i’s with the GR-Research kit. Kind of low-buck stuff at that point.

Anyway, sorry for going off topic.

Sweet! Reminds me of my earlier days with my former VPI tables. A word about the PH - when you set it up, if you have something like AdjustPlus+ or AnalogMagik run a frequency response plot. I had to return a PH I’d bought because there was a huge discrepancy in FR between the channels (all other alignments having been done and verified). At the time (about 4 years ago) there were reports of build issues with the new style Purple Hearts. Hopefully yours will be fine. Good luck!
