Some essential blues compilations I have listed above that form a core blues collection are this Chess Box, the Alligator 30th Anniversary, Box, and the JSP Charley Patton. Looking forward to sharing some Skip James and Elmore James as well.

Reminds me of my late fifties, early 1960 Florida days. I play both albums often.

I used to listen to the blues a LOT and played in a blues-rock band in Austin for a spell. I don’t listen though much at all now. My favorites are T-Bone Walker (especially the Black & White sides) and Jimi Hendrix. I still like the classic Chicago early material by Wolf, Muddy, Walter etc. and have kept those Hippo-Select boxes. And yes John Lee. . . what a great player.

This is one of my favorite “records”. And, its an excellent recording, even though I have it on plain ol’ CD.

Love it too. Listening in a dark room it gets flat out spooky at times.

Blind Willie Johnson is a fave. He is downright scary with his passion and drama. No one else was quite like him.
