Sneak Peek: FR-30, now FR-80

I thought this side discussion was a matter of some people having a sense of humor and others not. Anyways, the concentration is fairly low in the AN3’s🤷🏻‍♂️ AFAIK. Hopefully.

In addition to ammunition ( lot of which is jacketed), I have lead weighted scuba belts, lead acid batteries in my cars and motorcycles, wear a lead apron when I receive dental x-rays, enjoy lead crystal, etc. Lead is also used in various construction products, and more.

It is good we no longer use lead as bird shot. This use poisoned the environment.

Just do not chew on bits of lead, or cut into and breath the dust.

I’m just crabby tonight. Got the stinkeye for listening to Cowboy Junkies streaming from Lincoln Center during family movie night. I’m in the doghouse now.

I hope you installed some speakers in the dog house.

I was trying to be cooperative and listened on an AirPod and watched on my phone. I also paid attention to the movie (Driving Miss Daisy) and could tell you the entire film scene-by-scene.

I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHY I’M IN TROUBLE THIS TIME!

They just got to Sweet Jane. I don’t love the way they do it live now except for how muscular Pete gets on the drums at the end. They played A Common Disaster though.

Say, “Hey Fam - how about that Morgan Freeman, hunh?” ; )

Sure, but my film student son then points out that the year it won Best Picture, Danny Aiello got the only Oscar nom from “Do the Right Thing”. sigh

Love that internet.

All three of my sons are named surreptitiously after drummers I love. Pete Timmons being one of them. I wasn’t going to miss this concert.

So now let’s get this back on topic.

I love the AN3 look even though I will never be likely to afford them. They have a very Mid-Century Modern vibe to them and do meet the “furniture” design goal Paul has noted they were going for. They would look right at home in a Case Study House in California and, to my mind, hearken back to a console stereo feel, where the hi-fi was a critical part of any happening living room. I even like the stands.

If I ever get a Case Study House, I will definitely be rich enough to afford these, and they will definitely be in my home.

Now. On topic. Gonna stay on-topic.

Not to discount the problems with kids eating the lead painted windowsills in the ghetto I have crimped lead shot sinkers to fishing line with my teeth for 60 years or so. I have also used a plumbers lead pot to melt lead into ballast molds and billets for machining, spent a lifetime using 50/50 lead solder, machined automotive vibration damper masses from lead billets, handled lead radiation shielding bricks, handled lead race car ballast weights for 45 years, balanced automotive tires with lead weights, worked with lead water pipes and probably other incidental contact. A recent wellness blood test showed no discernible level of lead or any other heavy metals in my bloodstream. Should you be eating the lead painted windowsills? No but that may point to bad parenting issues more than the type of paint used.
As @scotte1 said above - the dose makes the poison.

Now back to the regularly scheduled programming

I’ve got an old Arcici Lead Balloon, a lead-shot filled turntable-stand, sitting unloved out in the garage. I’d happily sell it, but couldn’t get too much involved in packing it up.

I really like ‘yous’ all facts and antidotes, and will enjoy more, I’m sure. Just to weigh in with my choice, lead bad! I will stay away from it whenever possible.
A special SHOUT out to the fisherman who I greatly admire for finding safe solutions to lead. A high percentage of them must be scientist and biologist.
Now can someone replace my damaged brain cells?
Chas

It is good top stay away from lead to the extent you can, as well as many other compounds and substances.

Lead sinkers and other tackle of under an ounce in size are illegal in many states (critters eat the small ones).

It is unlikely you have lead poisoning unless you have commercial exposure in manufacturing or similar. One can receive chelation therapy “to get the lead out” if need be.

Ahh…“Get the Led Out”… great cover band!

I enjoyed this little bit of humor when I first learned about working with chelants in organic chemistry.

I think it neat. Looks like a an Infinity 4.5 type cabinet. Just rotated and made the drivers fire from the sides and the bass from what would normally be the front. Cool man !

Pretty sure 3 mm lead layer in a CD drive will do miracles in vibration damping, won’t find it in REGA spinners, doesn’t fit their philosophy.

@Paul you mentioned that Chris re-built the bass towers of the IRS with your new woofers - would love to see some nice pictures or even a video of that project! I am one of the lucky ones who could listen to these IRSs at what was then music room 1

Yeah! Pics or it didn’t happen!
