Such nice looking gear
I would love to meet up, but not sure what my plan is for tomorrow, I’m more worried about finding a parking space rather than what rooms I’m going to visit. For those wondering why, I got to the show just before 10 and I got one of the last spots in the main lot. Some new construction has taken some parking away.
Any listening impressions guys? those that were there.
Looks the DAC is similar to DirectStream operation but implemented in ASIC instead of an FPGA to lower noise, curious for more insight into the SpectraWave 64-Tap Sequencer.
There should be additional parking across the street in the business locations on Saturday and Sunday since most offices are closed.
2nd what @Paul172 said. They will have crews set up to guide us where to park tomorrow.
Thanks for the info. I’m wondering what will become of the DS MKII. Will Ted continue to work on new OS’s? Seems there is potential in using the second FPGA.
The Video stated that the new Dac will not be updated via firmware and it will stay the way it currently sounds.
You’ré right, it was a bit later in the video ![]()
I guess it’ll replace the Perfect Wave serie. I think they did an amazing job keeping the price below $9000! I watched the video again and must say they really look amazing. @Paul, you must be happy as a clam ![]()
Does anyone know if Ted Smith had anything to do with the new PMG DAC???
Replaced my M1200s with Orchard Audio dual mono stereo ref amp. Love it
No, Paul answers that somewhere at the end of the video. “… no, this is a Doug and a Bob project…”
The BHP PreAmp does not have labeled it. You can assing any input for HT Bypass
Will the streamer inside the DAC support Roon? If there will be no software updates, how you deal with the fast developing streaming landscape or major changes of existing streaming services? A streamer without updates will be obsolete pretty soon…
I always thought, that you want to have the network streamer not in the same chassis as the DAC, because of potential noise. This was the design philosophy until now with the AirLens and the DirectStream DAC. What has changed? Why now suddenly internal streamer?
Is the streamer based on any technology used in the AirLens?
So now from using tubes to no tubes. So the PMG series measures great, but will it sound great? Not too cold, too analytic?
No Ted Smith. Doug Goldberg is the new DAC guru at PS Audio.
The info for the new DAC and gear is now up on the PS Audio site.
noted Paul saying that new DAC will not get software updates; the 2 FPGAs are there to orchestrate
Sad to know Ted is no more…
I wonder how close the SGD design is to the PMGD. I am one who prefered the SGD to the DSMKII
