Strictly Jazz Sounds (Part 1)

Hesitated on this one when issued as at times I think I have too much Metheny, this morning not so much. Just ordered a copy of the Tone Poet release:

The cover image for some reason makes me think of ERCOT, wishing all Texans a good week.

The Tone Poet is phenomenal, you’ll not listen to the CD again.

Interesting. I found another edition for a lower price, but there’s not enough info to differentiate.

At this time I am happy with the original release and will not be picking up the RSD version, at least for now. :grinning:

Dave Holland, yet another strong solo effort. Really diggin’ his interpretation of Pork Pie Hat.

I agree with Lonson the Charlie Haden Montreal Tapes are all excellent performances. It is wonderful to hear Charlie in different contexts. Mention of a missing CD prompted me to check in on my copies, fortunately all safe and sound. A fan of Charlie Haden for quite some time learning of his capabilities outside of his work with Ornette Coleman on Keith Jarrett’s Survivor’s Suite and then digging backwards via Keith Jarrett’s previous releases and Charlie’s Liberation Orchestra. Moving forward to his work with the Ornette Coleman Tribute band, Old and New Dreams. Basically all in from there on. I understand there are other unreleased Montreal Tapes and hoping they see the light of day as proper releases.

Strong lead in by Joe Henderson on Round Midnight to kick off The Montreal Tapes. Thanks to Lonson for the nudge and wishing he locates his copy. A worthy addition to any jazz collection, IMO.

Tyran Grillo’s Between Sound and Space is highly recommended for the ecm afficionado. My copy purchased directly from Tyran:

Yes. Haven’t been back to Canada :canada: in over 4 years.

Huge climatic difference. I would choose warm weather too :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

More Charlie Haden from Montreal

I found another copy to order. . . won’t hurt to have two, I can always find a home for one.

Right now
Re-listened to this as it was in the player and it’s so good.

Wow! This is a great one.

Both are strong albums, Doug Carn is a favorite as well.

This is one I do not have and picking up a copy is rather pricey, fortunately I found it on Tidal. Reminiscent of Alice Coltrane’s early 70’s spiritual jazz.

Featuring Billy Harper (ts), Everert Hollins (tr), Fred Hersch (p), Louis Spears (b), and Horace Arnold (d) on the French Marge label.

Broke down and just ordered the Custodian’s Mix as my curiosity got the best of me. I look forward to the comparison and will share my thoughts.

Joyce Moreno (the artist formerly known as Joyce) “Raiz” (Roots)
Far Out cd

Acoustic Bass, Electric Bass – Rodolfo Stroeter
Drums – Tutty Moreno
Piano – Helio Alves
Electric Guitar-- Roberto Menescal
Vocals, Guitar, Music Director, Producer – Joyce Moreno

The sound of the CD is awfull, the pressing of the LP is very poor, the music is very far from Monk at it’s best, no even good

A special treat for Art Ensemble of Chicago and AACM fans as the Roscoe Mitchell Quartet will be featured at Madison’s Cafe Coda Sunday June 20 7 PM. The quartet includes Douglas Ewart (reeds), Junius Paul (bass), Vincent Davis (drums), and Roscoe Mitchell (reeds, percussion, tiny instruments). What a treat to hear Roscoe yet again. I understand tickets are selling fast. Anyone interested may PM me and I can share a direct link for tickets. Co-sponsored by:
