On to another mono Mosaic box set I pulled out to listen to, disc 1 of “The Complete Verve Recordings of the Buddy De Franco Quartet/Quintet with Sonny Clark”
I believe I only heard the gongs on 2 tracks. And it was not a lot.
Thanks. I might be able to live with that. There were far too many gong hits on the previous one.
Overall, this album is ok IMO. Expected more given the ECM notes. Some of the tracks are beautiful though.
“The Complete Capitol Live Recordings of George Shearing” disc 3
Gary Burton on vibes!
I love the intro here where Shearing talks of substituting “Lunch” for “Love” in song titles. “Lunch is just Around the Corner” cracks me up.
Strong subcontinental colours / sounds. Quite different from what I’m used to, especially “Again and Again”
Obviously you’re still in the quiet / peaceful mood
Love that one! Completely agree about Jeff Ballard. I always enjoyed Jorge Rossy’s playing With Brad, but Jeff always takes the material to another level. Before that album came out, I thought I’d never want to hear “Wonderwall” again!
I believe this was a RSD release last year. Picked it up for 50% off at my local indie record store.
Picked this CD up at a local thrift shop today. Great sound! His music is new to me.
Disc 2 of “The Complete Verve Recordings of the Buddy De Franco Quartet/Quintet with Sonny Clark”
This set has some of the best playing by Sonny Clark. Just my opinion.
Isoo Fukui - Bass
Tetsujiro Obara - Drums
Tsuyoshi Yamamoto - Piano
Playing the CD layer of a hybrid disc. Great stuff!!
Good one. Among his early works though. Did listen to his works with David El Malek & Mark Turner?

Hi Mike.
I fell upon this Lute (Ude) YouTube clip from 2017 Maricac Jazz Festival:
Zourouni | Naseer Shamma & Wynton Marsalis at Marciac Jazz festival 2017 - YouTube
No, I haven’t, but I’ll check it out. Thanks for the info.
