This, besides his imo even slightly better „Beat“ album are his best ones imo and both great sound quality. I have the hires albums and the LP‘s.
Although I guess those must be hires digital recordings, not analog ones, the improvement of 3D imaging of the LP‘s to the hires files is unusually big for a non analog recording. It’s really worth buying the LP‘s, even if in quiet passages a groove pre echo is quite audible.
I’m sure the LPs sound great. My LP playback is not as good as my cd playback, I don’t do digital files, and I’m not that crazy fond of his work to go that route. I do like the cd.
Sure, a good recording is a good recording, no matter on which format. The differences just get bigger then with hires and LP. And although most audiophiles are quite anal with their sound in terms of HW, this sometimes ends at formats and/or masterings for some, often just for convenience or cost matters or because streaming is not for everyone.
Yes, I just don’t pursue “ultimate sound quality” any longer. My system is geared so that almost anything I pop into it sounds really good and I can concentrate more on the music than the “sound.” And streaming is just not my thing–with over 30,000 discs it’s just not a format I need to pursue.
Oh…have to calculate what kind of square meters wall space 30k discs mean. Too much to start with hires, I understand
In my case the care for the best version started together with the care for a decent setup, as its influence to not only a small part was more important for sound quality for those important albums with format/mastering options available. The focus on music was at least still big enough for around 13k albums
It occurred to me this group will likely enjoy the *Ebony Concerto * by Stravinsky but may not know about it. It is one of the compositions he was commissioned to write for jazz band.
Igor Stravinsky wrote the Ebony Concerto in 1945 for the Woody Herman band (the First Herd). Mr. Herman reported that after the first rehearsal the entire band was in near tears the piece is so hard.
I enjoy videos with the score such as the one below.
Small world as I am currently listening to this Chet release on Craft records. BTW the Chet Baker Quartet with Russ Freeman Mosaic box set on vinyl is a keeper.
So I finally broke down and got the box set, actually ended up with more than one! I have turned on a handful of friends to this set, and each of one of us has been mightily impressed. Not one of us has yet to make it through all ten cds, as these merit repeated listening at the expense of delving in further. My understanding is AUM Fidelity is providing for a second limited release of 500. The release date has pushed out so contacting Steven at AUM Fidelity may be your best bet:
