Strictly Jazz Sounds (Part 1)

@Zadozm: Nice set of Ornette Coleman out takes from the Change of the Century and This is Our Music era, featuring Ornette, Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, Ed Blackwell, or Billy Higgins. Initially released in Japan followed by inclusion in the CD Box Set Beauty is Rare Thing. At times a series of out takes similar to this can be a mixed bag, but in this instance a very strong offering, recommended.

“Discovering new music, is actually a discovery of yourself. Sound and music has a straight connection to our inner emotions. If you understand that level of consciousness, you can let people enjoy music that they never thought they would like. The trick is to find the gate. A well recorded album played on a good audio system can be that gateway.” - Harry van Dalen

I also like the trifold paper cd case!

Bitches Brew–I was scrolling thru this most interesting thread to find your post. I have the original LP, the CD, a 24/96 download, and even a green edged CD on disc 2 the sum of which provide a basis of comparison. On my system, the LP beats the CD and the green edged version. The 24/96 wins by a small margin. Each are spectacular.

mark.

Enjoying this Randy Weston Blue Note vinyl compilation, especially the second disc featuring Coleman Hawkins and Kenny Dorham with Melba Liston arrangements.

Started off with this one again after getting my second Pfizer shot this morning. This live stuff is comforting and always intrigues me with is charm.

“The Complete Pacific Jazz Live Recordings of the Chet Baker Quartet with Russ Freeman” disc 3

Then it was this high energy live set: Freddie Hubbard “Keystone Bop–Sunday Night”

And to chill out a bit this beautiful recording. . . .

Streaming over Tidal/Roon MQA 24/192. Fully “unfolded” with the little Pro-Ject Pre Box S2. Sounds nice!

And going back to page one of this tread, Sonny Stitt’s Tune-up! on LP.

Check out I Got Rhythm where Sonny switches off between tenor and alto saxes with its blazing saxophone runs.

I picked the Everest LP Ebony Concerto up at the $1 record store in the before times. AFAIK, Everest were short lived but had an interesting discography. At the same time I picked up the 35mm magnetic film Rite of Spring.

I may have said back on the first page that I love his “I Remember Bird” LP. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s ever been reissued, on vinyl or CD.

I too enjoy I remeber Bird. From what I saw on Discogs you are correct it has not been reissued. That said it is available for wha I consider to be a reasonable price if you are interested:

Is Leonard Feather the composer of I Remeber Bird?

It appears so.

Yes, he most certainly did, (according to the LP credits).

I continue to enjoy Sonny Rollins of this period as well as on this compilation.

I appreciate the research, but i’ve had the LP since college in the ‘70s. I just wish it were easier to share with friends.

In some ways the limited access adds to the appeal. Especially true when we are talking and listening to vinyl. I have and will continue to enjoy some of the more obscure performances. Prior to on line streaming services the majority of my collection was unobtainable, jazz and otherwise. You purchased it when released, borrowed a friend’s copy, or arranged listening sessions with friends with similar tastes.

Speaking of limited distribution, for fans of Yuko Mabuchi, I strongly suggest picking up the vinyl. The performances are fine, the sonics are incredibly good. I just received both of these yesterday and am enjoying them presently for the first time.
