Nice to find this on clean and listenable vinyl. Picked up a handful of these German Commodore Classics compilations issued in 1980. For a vintage 1938/41 recording the sonics are clean and clear. Nice!

I needed a nice jolt. This music is like what I imagine a stiff drink is to those who do stiff drinks.

I just love every second of this music that I have been listening to for nearly fifty years.

Nice description! Next Negroni I’ll spin this as a tribute to Lonson, even though it will undoubtedly be an IMPEX LP reissue, or an original release.

A fine sounding late period Webster/Byas session with Tootie Heath and Peter Trunk from 1973. Ben Webster meets Don Byas, or is it the other way around.

It is indeed a great Bill Dixon release, and I’ve a 2017 LP reissue copy on Superior Viaduct.

Speaking of Bill Dixon CDs these are both worthy on the Italian Soul Note Label:

Hard to listen to ESP without including 1967 Miles Smiles, MoFI SACD. A second glass of CĂ´tes du RhĂ´ne here.

Wise choice, on both counts.

I gave away all my LPs in this series when I got the Mosaic boxes. The Mosaics are a treasure.

Ah, the Commodores are truly classics. I have a handful of the German pressed releases, and added the recntly posted ones to my collection last week. I vaguely recall the Mosaic CD box and at the time the genre and the format weren’t a priority. I do see the Mosaic Complete Commodore LP box sets are available at reasonable prices on Discogs. The first two box sets are available in the USA for reasonable prices at under $150 for 23 LPs per box. The third box set isn’t available in the USA, and prices are high. While interested in them, 23 records per box, and the third at 20 LPs is a lot to take on as far as listening.
