She is very close mic’d when she is recorded. This emphasizes fricatives, glottals, etc. Many of her fans enjoy this sense of intimacy. I find all of her recordings a bit much.
I have several of her albums, but this is, in my opinion very odd and distracting. I have never noticed it before to this extant.

I took a (long) drive to a well known record store today, Factory Records in Dover, NJ
They had a zillion rock, hip hop, metal records. But their jazz section was pretty pathetic.

I completely agree. Alice is a giant ! Her modality and sense of space, time and tone are beautiful.
With all due respect to you I don’t get her. At best she is a minor player in the world of jazz.
I do not think of Diana Krall as a jazz performer. She is adult contemporary.
