McKusick was born in Medford, Massachusetts. In the early 1950s he worked with Terry Gibbs and Don Elliott. He recorded albums as a leader, including Triple Exposure (Prestige, 1957). At that time he made many recordings with groups led by George Russell.[1]
Now Playing: The Busted Swing
by The Busted Swing — featuring Wendy Marcini and Elvin Vanguard
A smooth mix of jazz, swing, and late-night lounge music with a cool vintage feel. The album blends soft brass, brushed drums, upright bass, and relaxed vocals into a sound that feels both classic and modern at the same time.
Wendy Marcini and Elvin Vanguard create music that feels stylish, playful, and cinematic — perfect for listening at anytime of the day.
The purple artwork matches the mood perfectly, giving off the feeling of an old jazz club mixed with a retro casino lounge.

The murmuring from Elvin Jones is so characteristic of him. It’s almost as if you can hear his inner engine turning while he plays. Many drummers breathe or hum along, but with Elvin it feels like he’s adding an extra layer to the groove. It makes his playing more human, raw, intimate.
