On Facebook there are those reporting that Andy Bey has passed. I see no news other places on the web. Hope it’s not true.
Grabbed disk# 6 at random, ‘Total Eclipse’..this is a wonderful set. I did not have any of his later Blue Note albums, so my collection is completed.
I received an email from Mosaic that stated it was ‘back in stock’, so I assume they had some sort of production issues.
Not production units per se, it was explained to me that they order so many at a time, and re-order when low and that runs out, and it takes a time for a repressing (of discs, other material I believe are all manufactured at once) until the number of copies of sets allowed by the lease is reached.
PS: Don’t neglect the live Blue Note with Woody Shaw that is not in this set!
Interesting, I guess I had always assumed they pressed the full run up front..
Are you referring to the ‘Live at Montreux’ set? I will check it out, thank you.
I think in earlier decades of their existence they did–they had a warehouse and they handled their own shipping.
For years now however they have smaller facilities and have outsourced their shipping and receiving and I think as a result they have a smaller print run method of operations (and this also makes it less harmful if there are lease problems early in the run, as I believe happened in the past).
Yes, the Montreux cd is well worth seeking out–I’ve had both the US cd and the Japanese and kept the Japanese as sounding a bit better.

I should be getting my copies from Japan soon (SHM-SACD and UHQCD). I have several earlier copies from the US and Japan. Wish the piano were more in tune. . . .
