A September 2024 Release Dog Days of Summer from the forward thinking Satoko Fujii Quartet. On this high energy album free jazz and jazz fusion intertwine. Bombastic at moments then pivoting to harmony and melody.
This ensemble includes Natsuki Tamura – trumpet 田村夏樹, Satoko Fujii – piano 藤井郷子, Hayakawa Takeharu – bass 早川岳晴, and Tatsuya Yoshida – drums 吉田達也.

Echoes of Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra, The Ballad of the Fallen, one song, La Pasionara, dedicated to Dolores Ibarruri, stands out.

A later effort from Japanese free improvisation trumpeter 近藤等則 Toshinori Kondo, Blow the Earth, (India). My SubContinental Records CD I purchased from Kondoson on his last visit to the United States has exceptional sound, and his playing is sublime.

Agreed an excellent 2024 release, fantastic line-up to boot. Thank-you for sharing.

The vibes can be a lot of fun, difficult to record and the true test one’s analog system’s mettle, especially the note decay. I first jumped in to vibes with the above easy going mid ’70’s release. This led to a minor interest in Bobby Hutcherson, which has since grown into a more significant following. Patricia presents interesting ideas, and forms great ensembles.

Hard to obtain, pricey as a stand alone, but worth the effort IME. Should anyone desire a copy I know where one is available locally. The downside is the LP’s owner is asking $80.
