Strictly Jazz Sounds (Part 3)

This December 2024 Fondamenta release, Miles Davis Quintet The Complete Live in Paris 1960 Vol. 1, as part of their ongoing Lost Recordings series is an easy recommendation. Nice to hear Sonny Stitt on the tenor, bringing a full bluesy vibe to the Quintet’s sound. The remainder of the quintet carries over from the Kind of Blue session.
Sonically this is excellent, especially for a 1960 Live Broadcast recording. The top end offers excellent drum kit and cymbal sound, Miles Harmon muted trumpet has just the right amount of bite. The album title, Vol. 1 implies additional releases may be forthcoming. Looking forward to them.

To all how read and post to this thread I thought once again it is time to emphasize the basis for the Strictly Jazz Sounds thread, the intent of the thread was not to duplicate other threads geared towards sharing album covers, but to provide a means for discourse regarding the music, recordings and topics as they relate to jazz:

I thought I’d post a link to the January 30, 2025 Terri Gross’ Fresh Air interview with Ricky Riccardi regarding his book on the life of Louis Armstrong Stomp Off, Let’s Go. Note, I have yet to read the book.

Fresh Air

A nice compilation that ties in with the Ricky Riccardi interview referred to above. Included is Hoagy Carmichael’s Stardust.
