I routinely see people talking about this DAC with a “mark 2” or “mk I” designator. What is the current version and what’s the difference between the versions?
There was a version 1 and a version 2 of the PerfectWave Dac (the DSD’s predecessor). The differences were substantial.
The PerfectWave was replaced with the DirectStream DAC (DSD). There is only one hardware version of the DSD but multiple firmware versions, each named after a mountain peak in Colorado.
And the current firmware version is “Redcloud.”
All correct, there is only one hardware version of the DirectStream DAC (although the component boards inside the DAC might get different rev status over time, but as end users that has nothing to do with us).
