You’ve probably seen my ramblings about the LHY SW6, LHY SW10 Pro and Network Acoustics Tempus in the other threads. Tonight’s insanity… adding the DLink DMS-105 unmanaged 2.5GB switch to the mix…
The D-Link immediately hooked up at 2.5Gbps to my Ubiquiti Pro Max switch. I tried it with the stock wall wart immediately after listening to the Tempus.
Umm…. This is actually… quite good… tons of detail, a bit forward but lots of energy and texture. Not as relaxed as the LHY switches or Tempus, but no haze whatsoever.
I switched the D-Link back and forth between the wall wart and Tempus PSU using a plug adapter (the D-Link uses one of those skinnier plugs). The Tempus PSU makes a difference - takes a bit of edge off, loud passages are less harsh and better sorted, instruments are a little silkier. No it does not make it sound like the Tempus, but it’s pretty damn good. Might be interesting trying something like an iFi iPowerX.
I then switched to the SW10 Pro. Definitely more relaxed than the D-Link (and the Tempus for that matter), a bit more emphasis on the core of the note vs the leading edge, rounder but also a little less present. Bass has a nice resonance to it but also just a tad boomy at times - that can be tamed with a different power cord though.
The SW6 has been powered down for quite a while so probably unfair to swap it in cold - will give it a shot tomorrow.
This is good work and I appreciate what you are doing a great deal!
When you put a Network Acoustics Origin or Farad Super6/10 on a switch (or actually any digital device) you will see what it’s capable of.
There is a lot of room for improvement.
Isn’t the Tempus PSU basically an Origin?
EDIT: ah maybe not, saw your reply in the other thread
I have studied the Origin story of the Origin. It seems like the ideal thing for not me. Maybe two or more of them for not me.
lot of that going around
