@Al, if you need any help beyond what sleask has provided, check the MinimServer forum. There are several threads there about java issues, and if that’s not enough, Simon (developer of MinimServer) is very responsive to support requests; also look for posts by winxi, who is the resident expert on Synology and MinimServer. Getting Java on your Synology is probably the hardest part of setting up MinimServer.
Thanks , I sent someone a donation but did not know who it was going to. I sent 5.00. To minim server and 5.00 to some java dude too. I was reading the forums and it greatly helped . Once this is done I just need to start reading the metadata threads and figure out the tagging . I intend on loading music in wave only.

thanks i have it all installed , now i presume i make a folder named music and install music in this folder only , please correct me if i am wrong
I found the best way is to install synology’s media server from the package center, this sets up the default system shared folders, after its up and running you can just stop the media server. set your permissions for the folders, then in minim watch under properties in contentDir add /volume1/music
every time you add new files to the music folder you need to restart minim server, you can do this from minim watch.
Oh ok so mini server runs but it is started by media server . I installed that anyway.
ok i think i understand , i will play some more in a few. i can see the files , but even though minim is running
i cannot make it do anything so far. my elyric does not find my dac , so that is out only foobar for now.
thanks for the help
no, after you start synology’s media server you can stop it, minim does not need it running, I just use it to set up the default music, video and photo folders.
Yes that is what i meant. But i need to make minim do something. I do. Ot see udnp
But i do see the folder for music. I had to leave the office so iwll play at jome with it
@Al, did you install MnimWatch on a PC or Mac connected to the network? You need to use this program to set some parameters, including the folder(s) where MinimServer will look for music. Synology’s own AudioStation requires that files be in a ‘music’ folder, but MinimServer doesn’t care as long as you set up the location(s) with MinimWatch. Once you’ve got the settings as you need them, you don’t need to run the computer and MinimWatch except to troubleshoot or change settings.
I did setup minim watch and the full PC program as well. I see it running in the watch mode . I even see the folder where the music is. But I cannot do anything else . I only had an hour or so today to play. I will go in the office early like 5 tomorrow just to get this going. I converted tea for the tillerman in the music folder in wave. I do not see a way to set parameters , but it must be there . I have been reading the help files on the minim server site too. I really do appreciate the help here .

See the http://minimserver.com/ug-running.html#MinimServer%20and%20MinimWatch and scroll down to “Reading Audio Files.” MinimWatch isn’t on the computer I’m at now, but IIRC it’s right-click the MinimWatch icon in the tray, then select properties.
Ok thanks , it is running on the tray . I am not at my office so I cannot try it . But I will get this tomorrow .
Thanks
minim server will not sort wav “yet” you will probably find the album in “Unknown” in the control app
sleask said: minim server will not sort wav "yet" you will probably find the album in "Unknown" in the control app
Could you explain what you mean by this? MinimServer definitely does play WAV files. Are you using a control point that sorts albums by file type? I have never seen this.
yes it does play them, but it doesn’t tag them into albums, I find the songs in “no album”
Ok as soon as I can I will start to play again . My office furniture is coming today so the system is apart again…if need be I will take this home , I must get this going so I can start loading music. Also in another thread I’m reading I’m better off not having metadata in the songs just the album data on folders , so this must be figured out as well. Thanks
A quote for his forum “MinimServer doesn’t read tags from WAV files at present. I’m planning to add support for this in the next release”
I know David has done this so perhaps he will show up here tonight if he's not sleeping already.[UK]
hi guys - alrainbow have you got minim sorted out yet? would have piled in earlier but busy with work in Mexico City at the moment.
One thing I discovered about minim and the java install is that synology diskstation manager updates will break the java linkages and you'll have to reinstall - not really a big deal once you've done it once, and if you remember this fact then when you update diskstation manager you'll do the java at the same time.
Not yet crazy day at office I just got home.
