Love the DBX lights. Had most of them, 3BX, switch box.
I remember there were DBX LPs, wide dynamic range from
LPs which was quite ground breaking at that point. I think
my fav was The Who LP DBX version.
I think my brother had one of those as well, but didn’t hang on to it for too long.
That’s what I hear. I have yet to try my 224. I also had a 224x at one point about 10 years ago when I bought a Teac A-3300SX, but the deck had so many issues, I sold it along with the 224x. I had the 224 in the closet and totally forgot about it which explains why I never sold it. LOL
Once I get everything set up and have some blank tapes to play with, I’m going to try the dbx. The Yamaha deck has dbx NR built into it as well.
I still have the dbx DriveRack Venue 360 that I was using for active crossover duty on a pair of Martin Logan SL3’s and some DIY projects. It was dead silent and added nothing of its own to the sound.
I’m afraid to sell it in fear that if and when I do, I’ll magically need it again for some up and coming project. LOL
Can you recommend the venue 360?
It’s probably my upgrade path at some point from the dcx2496 I’m using now…
Most definitely. It’s a superb piece of equipment. Flexible, easy to use. I had a DCX2496 as well years ago. It was a great unit, but nothing like the Venue 360. The 360 is top of the crop.
Thanks, I’ve already heard a lot of good things about it, I guess that confirms my upgrade path, short of the alternative method of a deqx (as used by danofesherintheuk) and 3 x DS DACs, which just ain’t gonna happen
Yeah, I will vouch for it too. Of course almost no one trusts me here so take that with a grain of salt.
I’m still using my dbx Venue 360 for my Sanders Sound Systems hybrid ESLs. Works great and allows lots of adjustability. Roger Sanders uses this as his latest generation LMS (loudspeaker management system) which speaks volumes regarding performance.
Our Club did a Zoom interview with Roger Sanders. Nice Guy with a very “my or or the Highway” attitude towards audio. I hope to be able to afford one his Electrostatic Hybrids one day.
Hey Joe,
Did you guys record the Zoom interview? Would love to see this.
I’m sure Roger can seem a bit firm in his views, but he’s got lots of credentials to back up his claims. Like me he’s an engineer and doesn’t agree with a lot of this “touchy feely” stuff. Just science and facts are his fundamentals.
Also, you won’t find a more dedicated guy when it comes to answering questions and supporting his products.
Thanks,
Kurt
Here is two iteration of my system one with Audio Physic Avanti’s and the other is my DIY Tang Band W8_1808’s
PS Audio GCD with BHK 250, DIY Phono pre amp, Prime turntable w/DIY dual pivot, Pure Audio Lotus DAC, DIY low noise power supply, Shunyata power filter, two 20 amp dedicated circuits and a pair of REL S3 Subwoofers
Most interesting is the image of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Very nice
I’m interested in what circuit design you used for the DIY phone preamp - I’ve been mulling a DIY phono stage myself, assuming it’s not your own proprietary design of course
The speakers look like a beautiful job too!
Hi Elk, been a huge F1 fan since I was ten, up until the COVID-19 moment I was headed to Barcelona for two weeks to take in the race and visit a few Antoni Gaudi buildings and gates. You a fan?
Hi Joma0711, So the Phono preamp is the Emerald from RJM Audio, I really like the sound it’s has the right tone for me. Here is the link
http://phonoclone.com/diy-pho7.html
It needs a stout power supply with low noise.
The boards are high quality.
Thanks, that looks rather good
Joma0711,
Love that Tang Band driver something about the no crossover and it’s clarity. There was a bunch of Oak for sale and thought I would try an enclosure instead of an open baffle, with the REL’s they sound great.
Cool idea, mounting the side diffuser to the door!
do you know of any that are pre-made to fit?..
Thanks nesesity breeds invention, my room is a bit narrow so I needed something that had zero clearance and early reflection kills any soundstage and also can make a speaker sound messy and fatiguing. This really helps the sound in the room. A bit of diffusion in a room can go a long way in improving the over all sound.
