Thanks!
Just really great feedback. Thank you very much. Very tastey food for thought. I’ve been thinking about doubling the rack up a bit and moving the vinyl to my office area (where more stacks exist). This would afford some more area to play with, for the speakers. The room has fantastic reverb (see a graph in the room acoustic thread). Also, still playing around with room modes. I still have to force myself to get over forced symmetry, and do what sounds best. Getting there, and it’s hard to tell, but speakers, subs, etc. are not symmetrical.
It’s a Gus Modern “Wallace” couch, and could easily fit 3 asses, probably 4-5…depending on said asses. Cheers!
FWIW, I also think it looks like you’re soundstage could benefit from getting the speakers further out into the room. IME, a sense of spaciousness in general and a proper depth of field is tough to achieve without ample space behind the speakers.
Enjoy experimenting.
Good point. You could be onto something for sure. They are ~1m off the back wall, and ~60cm off the sides. Harbeth says .75m from the back, and 1m off the sides…anyway. I sure will have fun getting there, lest I need a new hobby. Ha!
Made a “pair” of upgrades in the way of a couple SVS PB-1000 Pro subs. Haven’t really had any time to dial them in yet. Just plopped them in, made preliminary adjustments, and let them go. I’ll really dig into the settings and DSP tomorrow hopefully.
I have a pair of the SVS SB 3000, and their integration is seamless. Congrats, and enjoy!
I’m already noticing that seamless integration with these subs, and I haven’t even done any real tweaking with them yet. Very “fast” with zero overhang and loads of sub-20Hz extension.
When I was shopping around, I was contemplating a pair of PB 3000’s or the PB-4000, but buying one now and the second one a couple months later. But I instead went with the PB-1000 Pro’s because they are the only ones that utilize speaker level inputs which I prefer and have always had the best luck with.
Very nice!
If you get bored, try moving the subs about 1/3 into the room along, but not right up against the side walls.
I have found that I generally prefer the results I get with this approximate location as compared to “corner loading”.
YMMV.
Enjoy.
Thank you, sir!
As it is now, the subs are about 2.5’ out from the corners. I plan on doing some rearranging of the room in the near future, which will allow me to move the subs around a bit more, as well as the speakers for that matter.
Stereophile thought enough of the SVS SB 3000 to give it an ‘A’ rating in their Recommended Components for 2021.
How did I get diffusers on the floor? By not staying married and retiring early to be a ski nerd audiophile.
This room sounds better than ever right now. Moved the tube traps from two on my REL line arrays, to 3-stacks (all the way to my tall ceilings) in inconspicuous, but very effective locations, and diffusing the heck out of first reflections. First time ever on the floor. Wonder what my GSD is gonna think? Pisssd that I haven’t fed her lunch is my hunch.
i can’t remember… harbeth 40’s and PSA 1200s?
in front of my couch i have a coffee table with crap on it. I’m going to call it a diffuser.
And after just a short time, It’s almost as if I have kids who are into legos. The imaging of actual kids is ludicrous! Uncanny.
Very nice. If I was going to get an integrated Vitus would be at the top of my list. I like the integrated that has a digital card. Tons of power and they look great.
It’s tempting to just sell everything and switch to an integrated. Far fewer cables, less physical footprint, and less fiddling.
It would be fantastic to see a PerfectWave Integrated.
When you go from separates to integrated you first need to change your mindset, otherwise you will regret the move.
Integrated electronics change your priorities. Looks and features move up the ladder, preferably without compromising sound quality but not necessarily with sound quality being the main driver.
I love my NAD M33 + passive speakers (living room) and C658 + active speakers (home office) Integrated solutions.
These do not offer:
- all linear power supplies
- DSD
- I2S
- class A/B
They do offer:
- all features to make then central control units for all Audio and Video (sound) tasks
- streaming with one of the most easy to use and high quality streaming operating system
- free of charge continuously maintained and updated apps / user interface
- good customer support
- DIRAC room adjustment options (useful)
- great if not high end sound quality
- low energy consumption
Yeah, it’s all about compromises. In a living space, there’s no way i would tolerate separates. Just holds zero appeal. Don’t want big monoblocks out on the floor, certainly.
Some integrateds are really sublime.
To wit:
IMHO, for true audiophiles, sound quality is the #1 consideration and everything else revolves around the system.
what is this “true” you speak of
