Happy Cake Day!!
Thanks guys! Awesome cakes
Now running a full loom of Chinese clone cables of Tara Labs power cables and interconnects, a couple of Kharma power cables, all very well built and do power cable things very well. The only “REAL” power cable in the mix is the Pangea AC-9 MkII that uses actual Cardas Grade One copper. That’s like a $300 cable. I’m still using the Maze Audio 9awg Ref 4 braided speaker cables which are just fine.
Also running both NuPrime STA-9 amps in bridge mono mode. And I also have another Pangea Volcan audio rack that I need to get over to the house so I can get that darn dresser out of here and put it in the spare bedroom. The rack is actually made from leftover parts from the four Volcan racks I purchased 7 years ago when Hurricane Irma was headed our way.
Over time, I’ll start getting back into designing and building some large format open baffle loudspeakers and subwoofers.
The “Clones” are labeled as Tara Labs?
If true, I would not support this kind of IP appropriation by buying such products.
It’s one thing to build knock offs and claim or even meet similar performance specifications. It is quite another to misrepresent a brand by using another company’s name.
My $0.02.
And Pangea is nowhere close to “real”.
The heavy duty Pangea cables are perfectly fine and utile cables, Mr. Stealth Snob.

…especially with high-powered SS amplifiers.
I am guessing you have hands on experience? Wink*
I plugged my new LHY Ethernet to Fiber converter in today with the stock 79 cent power cable it came with. I will put something better in soon. I was going to use a Shunyata Sigma V1 but it weighs too much. I have many Shunyata Sigma cables sitting on a shelf.
Nice clean loom, jealous.
I agree.
You may or may not remember, but a few years back, I got scammed into a pair of used “shot-gun” Tara Labs The One speaker cables as well as a power cable, and paid a pretty penny for them. Just for the heck of it I went to look up the serial numbers on them and couldn’t find anything, then contacted Tara Labs. They’re the ones who informed me about the cables I had being clones/knock-offs.
I then contacted the retailer that i bought the cables from. He felt bad because he said he should have checked himself and didn’t, so he gave me a full refund on the cables and told me to keep them.
I just discovered about a week or so ago that my stupid ex took all of those cables with her when she moved out. What a schmuck. LOL
As for these cables that I’m using in this system, I got all of them from one of my brothers who plays around with this sort of stuff in a second system of his, just for fun. Kind of like what I’m doing with this system. I was just short cables and needed some for this system, so he gave me all of these clones/knock-offs.
I wouldn’t knowingly spend my money on this stuff. Now the preamp on the other hand, that’s the different. It just uses a clone of Mark Levinson’s JC-2 circuit. It doesn’t label itself or claim to be a genuine Mark Levinson preamp. It’s doesn’t even look like it. So that’s fine to me.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Pangea cables, especially the AC-9 MkII I’m using. It’s a perfectly fine power cable.
I knew this was coming as soon as I read it! Lol
Well, at least he didn’t say that “cables make no difference”… ![]()
I use to have a full loom of Pangea AC9 SE’s. The cable was designed to row off the extreme highs as a way of killing ultrasonic garbage. It was the best sounding power cords for my system at the time replacing a duller sounding loom of Cardas Golden Reference’s. My system was bright sounding at the time and the Pangea’s was a good balance. Then I found some Acoustic Zen Gargantua II’s that killed the Pangea’s across the board in SQ. That was a long time ago and I’ve since moved on in this very deep rabbit hole.
You are saving vast amounts of money that can be used for lots of other things.
Very true. In fact, everything in this system we (my brothers and I) already own, and have for years. Even when I get around to working on the open baffle project(s) again, all of that will be free as well as I already own all of the drivers, amps and DSP for them. The only thing I’ll have to pay for is the wood to build the darn things! LOL
