Indeed, you apparently did a great job on the FR5’s :+1:

I am curious what they would sound like with my two REL T-9i subwoofers. Any thoughts ?

IME, adding subwoofers will almost always be beneficial – not sure the brand of speaker you pair them with matters too much – so long as you use them to “play the room”. Midrange and LF performance can be greatly improved when you place the subwoofers and the main speakers such that they work to counter room modes/nodes and maximize sound stage, respectively.

I have a pair of REL TZero subwoofers paired with my Anthony Gallo Acoustics Strada (MK I) stand mounted speakers in my office system and they are wonderful performers.

My main system is in a medium-sized room and I have found my REL T5i to be a great performer and to provide a nice, clean bottom end improvement – even though my Anthony Gallo Acoustic Reference 3.1 speakers can dig down to 22Hz with the Reference3 SA Power Amplifier powering the second voice coil in the Reference 3.1 woofers.

As long as your room is not too big, I think a pair of REL T9i subwoofers would be an excellent choice to pair with the FR5s.

Please let us know how it goes if you decide to give the FR5s a try in your system.

Cheers.

Prior to buying the “then” (November 2024) pricing of $8000 + $649 AZ sales tx Final Audio M12 “+” Electrostatic Speakers. I had SO MANY choices of what to buy for what I paid for the Final’s (gonna do a video soon on why the Finals over so many other excellent and better value systems out there).

Here were my choices as to what $8649 USD would have bought me with maybe a few “Schekels” still in my pocket in their order of value proposition IMHO:

  1. SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle (L & R), SVS Ultra Evolution Center, & a pair of SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf for the surround channels
  2. Philharmonic Audio The BMR Tower (L & R), The HT Center Channel (with optional RAAL Tweeter & Xover mod to match the L & R), & the infamous BMR Standmount “Monitor” Speakers for the surround channels
  3. 5x FR5’s !!! Oooohhhhh that would be amazing but not sure if PS Audio would sell me a single FR5

All Speakers would be in gloss black (maybe not the SVS or Philharmonic - depends on availability of that finish). And discounts ? (hard to say).

Understand that I’m very happy with my SUB Swarms of 4x SVS non bluetooth SB-2000’s that with in room gain gets me close to 20Hz.

That’s a nice accomplishment.

Thank you for your insightful comments.

The room I am using is a medium room with many windows. The Aspen 5s will replace a pair of Paradigm studio monitors. I am strictly digital with a Innous Zen Mk3 , Pass Labs XP-12 preamp, PS 700s , PS Stellar Power Plant 3 plus the REL subs.

I don’t know anything about these speakers but, subwoofers aside, my experience with AGA speakers has sold me on HF transducers that have wide dispersion capabilities and lots of clarity and speed – something that I don’t think most traditional tweeters (that are not planar or ribbon types) can achieve. For imaging, clarity and midrange to HF response, I would think the Aspen FR5 and its 2.5 inch planar ribbon tweeter might offer you a great upgrade in general performance (assuming the Paradigms have more “traditional” tweeters).

FWIW.

My current speakers ( purchased new around 2012 ) are the traditional kind. I think you are illustrating exactly why I am interested in trying the Aspen 5s. I am hoping they will give me a much greater performance. I am keeping my fingers crossed !
