I heard the FR-5s at store a year or so ago and loved them. I think they’d be perfect for my new place. I have a smallish room, 21 X 16 ft and I like jazz, classical, rock. I don’t listen to anything too too loud and I’m wondering if my power amp (60 W/ch) would be sufficient to drive these? I love the amp’s sound and the amp I heard with the FR-5s a year ago was also a tube amp so I’m very optimistic about the pairing aside from power concerns. I’m guessing that maybe I could buy a more powerful amp too for the base and bi-amp them? Thanks for any thoughts.
Welcome!
Wonderful amp. It would do brilliantly.
As @Elk mentioned, that amp should be good. If you ever need more bass (like I do) you can always add a subwoofer or 2.
Ok, thanks for the confirmation!
Ok, thanks for the advice!
never mind!
I ordered the FR-5s. I hope they make it here soon. I’ve never bought a speaker before without listening to them first but from looking at reviews, they look pretty amazing and there doesn’t seem to be anything close worth considering aside from the Philharmonic bookshelf speakers but they are currently not available.
What also interested me about the whole Aspen line is their midrange and tweeter drivers which seem to be descendants of the old Infinity speaker drivers and I used to love the old RS-IIb speakers which a friend of mine had. Will report back once I get them!
Do you mean descendants of?
lol, yes… brain not working right today
I have an old Infinity system, the Infinity Modulus. While I loved the Infinity speakers and the emit k tweeter, PS Audio tweeters are much better (30 years of technology better). I always wanted an Infinity speaker with a ribbon midrange driver, but was never able to buy one. For me, the FR20’s are wonderful.
Yea, those sound great. The FR-5s will probably be a stop-gap for me until I can afford the FR-20s. They’d be perfect for my listening room. I guess one gets nostalgic for the speakers of yesteryear. I was just day-dreaming now about the possibility of modernizing Infinity RS-IIb speakers with the drivers from the FR-20. It’s probably either not feasible or would cost a fortune!

Old Infinity speakers, any with the Emit tweeter pushed me out of a room faster than Focal speakers do. But the FR20 and FR30 please me greatly.
That’s basically an FR20/FR30. 2 X 10’s is a bit less cone area than 4 x 8". I don’t necessarily favor the array midrange/tweeter they did because this narrows vertical directivty a lot (depending on the crossover).
There are DIY driver options but not a physically drop in and quite an effort to get the crossover work right.
Way too cool!
