"The Audion" Monoblock Amplifiers by AGD Productions (a/k/a My Latest Upgrade)

Regarding your question as to whether or not the analog/digital side would benefit the most from SDFB, I really didn’t ponder that myself. I figured since I was feeding both the DS and the Wavelet with the JS-2, that is where I would install that particular Fuse Box.

The MK III tubes are an excellent upgrade IMHO

I have the AGD Gran Vivaces and I couldn’t be happier with them.

I’m using them with my Fyne F703s after using Schiit Tyrs (stunning for the price, now apparently discontinued), Bel Canto REF 600Ms and Primaluna Dialogue Premiums run as monoblocks with KT150s.

My understanding is that the AGD amps have a shared sound signature, but vary primarily in output power…

I comparation with a/b power amp or tube power how are the AGD in sound because is class D people say AGD are in in the dame league of $30,000 hi end amps and than A A/B and other clas D

In my experience, The Audion is comparable to a high performance A/B mono amplifier.

My only direct comparison is to my 500 WPC, high current A/B Emotivas (XPA-1 MK I), which was quite a while ago.

IIRC, The Audion was a tad more “holographic”, but lacked a little LF control and slam.

They are otherwise, by all accounts, excellent performers - very dynamic, highly resolving and non-fatiguing.

FWIW.

Thats incredible i hope to buy the AGD duets or the bhk 300, i have the bhk preamp with bhk 250 buti whant to upgrade to monoblock, eñ what preamp you use with the audions?

The Audion amps do not get their just deserts in my office system - not enough playing time - and the Emotiva’s are still the amplifier of choice for my Big Rig. This is not because I think the Emotiva’s are so much better. Rather, the form factor of The Audion’s and the “grunt” and everyday use of the Emotiva’s mean the diminutive Audions are more appropriate for use in my office and the Emotiva’s are more appropriate in my main system, which serves double duty as a 2.1/7.1 stereo/AV system.

But I digress…

My current preamplifier in my office system is a Decware Zen Triode Preamplifier. I pair it with a bsg/technologies Qol Signal Completion Stage. I think the “real tubes” pair well with the Gallium Nitride MOSFET based Power-Stage of The Audion.

Prior to acquiring the Decware preamp. I paired The Audions with the Qol and a Hattor Audio passive/active preamplifier, which I still have sitting in reserve, with equal satisfaction. The Hattor is really quiet.

You have a lot of options when it comes to preamplifiers. My advice is, “don’t scrimp on performance”. The Audion is capable of being very, very resolving and muscially satisfying. You don’t want to cheapen the experience with something that makes the overall presentation significantly less resolving.

My $02.5 (this post was longer than I intended and probably more than you wanted to read).

PS

The Audion is a great performing amplifier and a stone-cold bargain if you can manage to buy a gently used pair.

I use a BHK preamp with my AGD Gran Vivaces and am delighted with the sound, especially after the Blue Sky upgrade to the DS Mk2…

YW.

Good luck with your search.

If you haven’t yet seen it, here is a YouTube video of Jay Lee discussing both the Audions and the Gran Vivace amplifiers, along with comparisons to a few others…

FYI, there is a “preamplifier pairing” discussion in the video starting at about 10 minutes.

Wow bhk pre with grand viviace, will be a top high end plasure , i have the bhk preamp with bhk 250 sound good but i what to go a manoblock, i look a AGD duets and the bhk 300, the grand viviace will be a huge, the combination bhk pre and the AGD mono how are in sound carateristic , how are warm ditailed? They have much bass or tight or texture bass the mids and high are relax not fatigue?

I would say that the AGDs are quite neutral from a tonal perspective, but nicely detailed and very quiet. Monoblocks excel at soundstaging in my experience compared to most stereo amplifiers.

The BHK preamp’s sound can be tailored to a degree via tube rolling as you know. Currently I am using the new production Apos RAY 12AU7s in my BHK…

Nice review of the AGD i hope is a good combination whit my bhk preamp also considered the bhk 300 monoblock, but i hear lot good things about the AGD duets , that put me in a direction to try the AGD minoblock will see, thanjs alfredo

That’s a good summary of the attributes of The Audion amplifiers in my experience.

FWIW.

Just a quick note: the AGD Duet is a stereo amp in that line and the Solo is the monoblock…
