If the Mk II is displaying 48k, then that’s what it is getting. E.g. something upstream is downsampling (which is reasonably common actually.)
Thanks Ted, I have to check the settings in Vinyl Studio.
Thank you ,Ted. I’ve checked all the settings in Jriver to no avail. Any mp3 file 96-320kbs displays 44.1/24. Am I correct in saying that Jriver is doing some kind of “math” on the files? I’m not the brightest bulb when it comes to digital audio file specs etc. would you mind explaining how mp3 is processed by the MK2?
Many thanks!
I’ve read articles about padding of empty bits. Is that applicable in my case?
MP3 is processed by your player. 44.1/24 is a fine output from MP3, that’s expected.
The DAC only accepts PCM and DSD.
Yes. My Denafrips Hermes DDC used to pad 16 bit files to 24 bits until I updated the Hermes firmware. The DS always showed 24 bits. Until this update.
It must not have been padding with 0’s. The DS simply reports the number of occasionally non-zero bits.
Ah I see. Problem solved. Thanks for the enlightenment.
I’m not sure how they converted everything to 24bits however they did until the last firmware update. I was just told they padded it in the DDC.
Ted,
I can’t find settings anywhere in Vinyl Studio that would be causing it to down sample. Everything is set to pass whatever is recorded through. The files are definitely 24 bit 96khz as this is how they play in JRiver when I play them there. I also burned an album to dvd and it shows 24/96 on the PWT and the mk 2. It is a non issue as I only use audio via Vynil Studio to monitor when working on a recording. I just wanted to share this incase someone else comes across it.
With computer audio, the device you’re using will have a very poor soundcard built in that won’t support high res playback, pretty much any computer weather Mac or PC is like this.
There are some programs like Roon, Foobar, JRiver, Audirvana etc will redirect the audio output away from the PC soundcard and do it’s own software based processing.
From what I read in the manual, Vinyl Studio hasn’t been updated for a very long time, and doesn’t support high res playback, only recording.
My guess is it’s being processed by the computer soundcard and downsampled by that.
No , Vinyl studio does use the PSAudio extended resolution driver and according to the software supports up to 32 bit 356 I believe. It also supports dsd. This downsample thing is just some kind of quirk. It really does not matter to me as I don’t use it to play the files only for monitoring when I edit the recordings.
From the manual though, that’s only for recording, not for playback.
I have never seen that. Thanks that is the answer.
I contacted Alpinesoft Vinyl Studio. There is a setting to set WASAPI and still use the PSA driver.
I changed that and now get correct 24/96 on the mk2.
What I don’t understand is why all these issues, in 2023? I have an Auralic Aeries G1 I’m using an Audience FrontRow USB to a Chord Hugo TT2. I’ve never had any kind of connection issues. All of the problems I’m reading about reminds me of the first gen Bridge… what a nightmare that was.
