@paul - count me in, sent you the email…

Also done

Email sent. Would love to lend an ear.

Emailed you as well!

Guys, please stop telling everyone you emailed Paul. He already knows, he received the email. The rest of us do not need to know.

By the way, you are also cluttering up Paul’s inbox; he receives all Forum posts by email so you’re actually emailing him twice.

Very interesting, So is that why the Dac sound different (and worse in my system) with Bridge 2 removed when using USB, because the pic processing pattern is different? I presumed it was pleasant thickening noise that the Bridge adds on?

No, the PIC isn’t involved directly with USB at all - USB and the Bridge both provide the FPGA with I2S, but they each have their own benefits and problems with external incoming noise, groundloop issues, and local noise generation. Yes the display/control processor is doing different displays for the bridge compared to all of the other inputs, but (especially with the display off) the sound quality difference is probably very small compared to the differences cause by the external environment and local noise generation, etc. Much of the display/control processor code is running identically no matter which input is selected (house keeping, getting status from the FPGA, dealing with the remote, …)

Thanks Ted. Just to add, I always have the display off for improved sound.

Strange, my DirectStream sounds better with the Bridge II card removed. @tedsmith, based on what you know, should it sounder better, worse, or just different with the Bridge II card removed? I would think it could do nothing but hurt the sound quality.

I know! I got the idea from another member, but I was very disappointed. The treble was definitely a bit clearer, but no bass extension what so ever, no bass slam, Bridge went straight back in.

When I am not using the Bridge II input, I leave the network card in place but disconnect the Ethernet cable from it. I recall reading that doing so achieves most if not all of the sonic benefits of removing the card.
