Did you try rebooting your Mac?
He does it by love. Right now he loves me not.
Show me your ORC settings please.
Itās getting late here so Iām hitting the sack. I did use ChatGPT to troubleshoot which was insightful. I am unable to find a log file. I removed the bin1, bin2 and bin3 folders in BACCH Data, then restarted etc. Same issue and didnāt re-write. Created a clone of the BACCH Data Factory folder, re-named to BACCH Data (old folder re-named). This time, recording a new calibration still hangs and doesnāt complete but there is new data (time stamp) written to the bin I selected.
Goodnight! Iāll check in tomorrow
Conclusion from ChatGPT:
Theoretica engineers rely on that log to monitor solver progress; its absence signals that the appās file-path permissions or logging thread are failing, which aligns perfectly with the 14.4 reports some users have sent in over the past few months.
Theyāll almost certainly:
-
confirm this as a known 14.4 bug, and
-
send you either a temporary patch build or a link to 14.0.3, which works flawlessly on Apple-silicon Macs.
Update: Edgar got on a call with me and all sorted. Looks like my in-ear microphones needed re-calibration as its readings were causing the processing hang. He walked me through that, we did a factory re-set and new bin created. Worked perfectly. ChatGPT got it wrong - there is no āknown 14.4 bugā!
Sounds fantastic.
I am looking forward to when the new version comes out!
New version? Is this some news or just anticipating that there āshould beā a new version of all software?
Edgar also increased the level of cross-talk cancellation. My wife commented on the improvement after (but that was also with new calibrations after moving my speakers).
Cheers,
Phil
Um, more details please.
Hi Al,
Sorry it was the ORC max allowable boost that he increased. XTC was already at 100%.
Cheers,
Phil
I knew about the ORC slider. I have friends who felt ORC needed to be tamed. They used that slider until they finally accepted ORC at 100%.
I missed the existence of the XTC slider. The B4M interface is slightly busy. Much busier than the BACCH-SP interface. I just looked at it and the slider options are either not there or hidden from Al. I will ask Edgar.
As a long time Edgar follower, trying to use less than 100% of his tools was never something that interested me. When you said he adjusted your XTC upwards, I thought I had missed something, or something was new.
When a person is new to BACCH, it isnāt unusual for them to try and tone it down. Hence the sliders on B4M but not on the SP. I started with an SP and bought the B4M to be familiar with it. Itās been a while since I spent any time with it. Two months ago I got a new B4M setup. Iāll have to play with it.
Thanks for the response!!
Huge difference between your left and right channels! Asymmetrical room?
Very observant of you, but no surprises there!
Yes, my room is asymmetrical. I have a large entry on the right speaker side, and a āwall of windowsā on the left speaker side. Itās an open plan lounge-dining-kitchen room; 7m wide and about 11-12m long.
Cheers,
Phil
The Kuhl thing is, BACCH can deal with asymmetrical issues. Magic!
It is magic. Itās a ācanāt go backā technology. I canāt change the asymmetry and room treatments arenāt an option. Most of the left speaker side wall is floor to ceiling windows / sliding doors facing a northerly aspect (ideal in the southern hemisphere) river view. The right speaker side has that entry alcove going up a short flight of stairs, then mostly a wall before reaching a window at the kitchen end of the room.
What devices are members using to convert the Coax signal out of the PS Audio SACD player (or other disc spinner) to optical input of the Babyface Pro? I gather this is the way to get BACCH to work on CD output?
I upgraded from the Babyface Pro to the RME UCX ii which has more input options.
When Stratosonic comes out a new firmware will be released. Should be very soonā¦..
Iāve heard Bacch with ORC and crosstalk cancellation on three different systems in a residential setting and I must say compared to the demo at Axpona and I assume other audio shows with Edgar it doesnāt do any justice to what Bacch can do to oneās hifi system. I met a gent thru @aangen and his system/setup may be the best Iāve ever experienced. Alsyvox Raffaello speakers 20w Class A tube amps by Berning and the sound was stunning. It was truly listening to a performance and not a system! Turn the Bacch off the soundstage shrinks and the air is sucked right out of the music. Itās amazing and I donāt know how anyone can go without it once its set up properly.
Amen Brother!
I am sureā¦but I fear I might not have the patience or prowess to get to this point.
Maybe some day.
Patience? Place inner ear mics in ear play test tones and 30 seconds later your room is optimized and calibrated? You must be very impatient!
I have been following this thread for some time.
I got the impression from some of the screen shots that this was pretty complicated stuff. I must be confused.
