If you get carried away with the settings by free lancing you will get in trouble but no, Bacch will do everything for you just pop in the in ear mics and let it work its magic. Edgar will walk you thru and teach you the set up with purchase. Al set up the one I have and it’s not as complex as it appears.

Hi everyone,

Re BACCH4MAC, does anyone have any experience with upgrading the USB cable (standard) connecting the Mac Mini and the Baby face Pro? I have an impression from somewhere that it’s not a critical cable as it only defines the settings and it’s not in the signal path.

I know that the BACCH system is sensitive to the usual upgrades, eg, power supply, cabling and so forth. But would be great to know about this USB connection before going ahead, in case anyone has tried it.

Completely unrelated: I am finding the David Laboga cabling blows away similarly priced competition.

I don’t think the usb will make a difference. I did notice that an external power supply on the babyface pro made a noticeable improvement.

Farad power supply. Seems to take a load off the Mac mini powering the BFP and improves and lowers the noise floor in the Bacch4mac.

Makes perfect sense. Adding to my upgrade plans. I also recall someone saying a good supply to the router makes a difference as well as the switch.

Thanks Paul. I already use a dedicated PS for the Babyface. SOtM. And yes it made a big difference. But agree, not going ahead with upgrading the usb connection

Good power supplies to everything makes a nice difference. I found the PS from ifi (x version) was a cheap and powerful upgrade to my router.

I just placed an order for a couple of iFi iPower Elite power supplies. They seem well reviewed and not over the top on price, especially on sale.

I’ll use one for my Babyface Pro and another for my router and see what that does!

I plugged my iFi iPower Elite into the Babyface Pro and all sound stopped. Worse still, I tried troubleshooting with ChatGPT and went on a wild goose chase for two hours and now have gone down a deep dark hole where my TotalMix, BFP&Dac etc have gone and I can no longer stream. Bah! I have asked Edgar for help.

So… a word of caution with external power to Babyface Pro and more particularly ChatGPT

First off, trouble shooting with ChatGPT is a mistake. Especially with BACCH gear. It is a rabbit hole you should avoid.

Second, I plugged in a Farad PS to my BabyFace Pro and had zero issues. Weird.

I assume you unplugged it, powered down the Mac Mini, and restarted. If that didn’t do it you may need Edgar help. He does not prefer people mess with TotalMix. I always do. But it is so very easy to get lost and do something wrong.

Does the Babyface light up anymore? Also, disconnect and reconnect the Babyface Pro cable at both ends. You can call me too.

yes, I was foolish and impatient, and big mistake to use ChatGPT. I’ve now lost BFP&Dac.
Sound vanished as soon as I plugged the iFi iPower Elite into the BFP. It is still recognised by MacOS hardware and is lighting up but not with signal.
Meanwhile, I’ve reconfigured Roon to output its USB to the Directstream Mk2 directly. Not the same wiithout BACCH4Mac!
It’s late here, so I’ve got to head to bed. I’ll see if Edgar replies to my email and what time my brain wakes me up in the morning.

(p.s. yes - rebooted the Mac, BACCH4Mac, MIDI, BFP multiple times, USB unplugged, repligged, etc but I think damage is done via software)

My impression with upgrade cables, upgrade power supplies, etc. No difference.

Keep it simple, use it as is.

People I respect have found otherwise. I should not be taken as anything more than a person with an opinion.
