Theoretica Applied Physics BACCH

,

Mine shows up mid week. I have a left XXL surround speaker I will park the light on initially it should illuminate my face well since it is at right height and only five feer away. I bought black but considered a white ceiling mount but wanted to see if it works first.

Well after about 2 weeks of Doctor visits, and meds the hearing in back in my right ear… wow what a scare.

It was a sinus infection, with what appears to be no long term damage.

We did the Bacch update it was easy peasy.

Is there a new MKII update, and should we update our unit?

Thanks,
Steve

The mk2 update was just source switching. Improvements for noise. Sounds like at least 3 to 4 weeks before any noticeable firmware and UI updates for Bacch4 Mac owners.

My IR illuminator was delivered today. I installed it and it definitely improved IR illumination for the IR camera. Head tracking is much better. I’ll be experimenting with various locations but wanted to share that it indeed works (not that I ever doubted Edgar :slightly_smiling_face:)

I was happily surprised to see that it included an inline switch so that it can be turned off when not in use. For some reason I thought I read where it was “on” as long as it was plugged in. I also wanted to mention that it came with screws and anchors that look to be able to support a ceiling mount if so desired (assuming the ceiling isn’t too coarsely textured).

Excellent news. Edgar always tests his recommendations. He told me I could tape over camera IR light sendor at 6 oclock. I did notice a click noise. of the flashing on and off when near camera.

Yes - I heard the relay clicking and, initially, I wasn’t sure where it was coming from. Is Edgar saying that taping over the IR LEDs at the 6 o’clock position will eliminate the clicking noise? Is it your understanding that he recommends doing that? I assumed it was toggling between an “IR” mode and a “visible light” mode.

There is a light sensor at six oclock. It will keep the lights off he said. I assumed relay is switching IR lights on and off.

Perfect! Thanks for the clarification. I’ll do as suggested :+1:

I have never tried head tracking. Hmmmm. I am not really interested in it.

Hi Al - ironically, I was just contemplating asking you how you viewed head-tracking using an SP. I guess I have my answer :grinning: Being the adventurous sort you seem to be, I’m surprised there isn’t at least a wee bit of curiosity. For us in the BACCH4Mac camp, head tracking is one of the major capabilities provided when stepping up to the Audiophile or better levels. In my case, I almost feel obligated to use it

I agree with at times there is so little quality time availability to enjoy the hobby. Why not maximize how it performs and presets a soundstage and iinsight into the live recording venue or what a mix can give. I do like the ability to steal sweetspot without chair switching.

99% of the time I sit in the same chair and I don’t move side to side. Something that tracks my head movements would have next to nothing to do. Plus it would be one more cable for my bunny to eat. I listen in the dark mostly so the cam that comes with my adio might not be useful.

Gimme a link to the favorite dark environment camera and I’ll order one and give it a shot.

Here’s the IR camera that Theoretica recommended: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWWSWNH?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

The range of its illuminating LEDs is not great; probably intended for use in front of a laptop. That being the case, per @Vmax, Theoretica recommends this IR illuminator: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SHPKSSM?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

I bought both. The camera without the illuminator was useless to me with about 7’ from the camera to my listening position. The illuminator made a huge difference and head-tracking is working in the dark as well as it does in normal lighting conditions.

With your listening habits as described, I agree head-tracking may not buy you much (if anything) compared to just using the filter. I like whatever freedom of movement it provides me and I figure I might as well use it since I paid for it

FYI… I was on the phone with Edgar this afternoon and he mentioned that the next gen SP units were unveiled at Munich. I asked about upgrade paths for folks with legacy hardware and he said that upgrade options are definitely going to be offered. So if you want an ADIO “Apex” upgrade, you’re in luck! :slightly_smiling_face:

I can believe BBB is your future. Baach Butt Blisters. lol
I do hope that my hastily invented acronym becomes very popular. I’m so pleased with myself.*

Thanks for the links! Both pieces ordered!
I will let you know if I have been making a mistake ignoring head tracking.

In other news, I spun a brand new Magical Mystery Tour 180 gram Giles Martin mix through the BACCH. Sadly, the subs had to be low. But side one just knocked me out! Good golly. Wish I could do side two but I can’t. Personal reasons. Issues, I have them.

But still!!!

Messy but fun!

Messy? Nah - organized chaos is an art form! BTW… love the embedded rock diffusers!

My two devices came today for head tracking. Sadly, the cam arrived without any sort of base. Is that an extra cost option?

I think the (unfortunately unspoken) expectation is that it would be mounted on a tripod. I picked up this one on Amazon for less than $20. It’s plenty stable for the low mass camera and makes it easy to get the camera at the right height.

That would look odd on top of my Gryphon Apex.

Look for this on Amazon - Portable Desktop Mini Tripod PICTRON MT-24 Compact Camera Tripod

Or a Gorilla mini tripod.
