That isn’t possible. Head microphones are required.
@aangen - absolutely not! That was directed at myself needing to consciously dial back my enthusiasm for the BACCH products on occasion or risk loss of any remaining credibility I may have.
I hope Theoretica is well represented at this years audio shows as it’s a classic case of needing to hear it firsthand to really appreciate the buzz.
The problem for me with the show demos is in order to demonstrate, in the shortest amount of time, the effect of the XTC filters Edgar has to play things that are fun, and loaded with effects. It’s music, but it’s not.
I wish he could do a session where you just play some Floyd and some Tool and maybe some jazz. In a deep room I believe four people could be served on the perpendicular bisector.
Showing off ORC will be a tad more difficult. But once you have it at home you can get off of tweaks and feet and all that. Just listen and wait for Edgars next creation. He seems more than capable of holding my attention.
Good points Al. I like your suggestion of the “perpendicular bisector” as a basis for maximizing the number of folks simultaneously experiencing the BACCH magic. Building on that, I’m picturing a large, deep listening room where everything is roped off except for a narrow corridor down the middle supporting a procession of show attendees. At the end of the corridor, Edgar’s guys await and can facilitate order placement
Have you heard the ORC module firsthand?
Yes sir. It was added to my system Friday night.
Fair enough — but not sure that would preclude it from still being viable on a network connected set of speakers like the Dutch and Dutch (that already have the capacity to accept room correction filters). That being said, not sure they have sufficient processing power to do all the complex magic that goes into the BAACH standalone products. Anyway, would be nice to see some of the fancier features trickle down to the plug-in in some shape or form to the extent it’s possible.
They should have a separate room at Axpona that has a reservation system for the sweet spot every 5? 10? Minutes. It seems like that short of time would be enough for a person to be moved to try it at home?
All of the Room Correction systems I know of use microphones to measure the room acoustic characteristics. These measurements are used by software to generate the Room Correction filters. The BACCH4Mac Intro version does not have microphones and that is why ORC is not available for that version. I am not sure how your Dutch and Dutch speakers and a microphone could measure the room acoustic characteristics and generate a RC filter. The BACCH4Mac Intro version uses angles (between listener and speakers) to generate a cross-talk filter. I am guessing that the Dutch and Dutch speakers have something similar. I am not sure how one can generate RC filters without some data about the room and how the speakers are positioned within the room.
The Dutch & Dutch work with REW, which I use on my PC with a USB mic and then upload to the speakers via the software. I don’t know how it would work with BAACH. I’m just hoping that, since it is already implemented with REW, that it might also be doable with BAACH.
Sorry, guys, I really didn’t mean to derail a productive thread about a feature that is actually being released with a conversation focused on wishful thinking. My question is really about whether the plug-in will see further development (be it room correction or simply more BAACH options).
As you were!
Good lord kids, this room correction stuff isn’t a component level change. It’s a system level change!
If you haven’t ordered your Bacch4Mac yet, get on it! There will be an uptick in orders once people hear this. Dang! Can’t wait to hear it on the adio!
@aangen - is the “system level” improvement also applicable with the BACCH filters off and just using room correction, as compared with your standard set up? And is the OCR filter, when used without BACCH 3D, effective outside of the “sweet spot”?
Thanks,
Phil
I understand your question and I believe the Room Correction alone is a major improvement. It has a large effect on the XTC filtering as well.
Thank you! That’s fabulous!
I have a question about spatial cue’s / crosstalk db level what is required. For the ultimate crosstalk experience of binaural recordings, I believe 20db is required. But I also read somewhere that regular stereo recordings have a lower levels of these spatial cue’s and there for a less level of crosstalk cancellation is required. Was this range of maximal spatial cue’s captured for regular stereo recordings about 8 - 10db, or am I completely wrong? (I can’t find this information anymore…)
The patent talks to at least a 17dB average XTC and 20dB for reverb artifacts if I recall correctly.
I just bought the Intro package. Running it on a MBP Intel with Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Is it possible to connect an external DAC through USB? Haven’t done my walkthrough yet.
Absolutely.
Last night I had a terrible time with my Bacch4Mac setup. First this didn’t work, then that didn’t work. Then the Grimm MU1 got sad. It kept getting worse. I should have shut down and gone to sleep. Instead I kept trying to fix it. Wrong.
Today I took all of the Bacch4Mac gear outside in the sun. I sang to it.
I brought it back in the house and hooked it all up in a new, nicer place.
By the time Edgar called me tonight to check out the system it was all better.
Tomorrow early my wife leaves for the Cabin. So tomorrow night a new victim gets visit my chamber of horror. I hope it holds together.
Yeah I have been there a a new user, but using a DDC also so I could still use dragon HDMI as I2s.
Things got much happier after that and so much more stable running USB.
Tomorrow is the last day of the last part of January. Hopefully Edgar is closer to meeting his ORC release date.
They are releasing a new Alpha this week. And after that he thinks it will be released fairly quick. I can’t wait to see what you think of it. Last night was just odd. I blame me.
You are using a DDC? Which one?
