Too many subwoofers?

My starting track for Sub setup is “I’m so lonesome I could cry” by the Cowboy Junkies on their Trinity Session Album. There is a thumping footfall beat from one of the artists that should be slightly noticeable but not annoyingly loud. I have other more bass heavy tracks but I find that this relatively quiet song is a good starting point for setting up the crossover and the volume of the sub.

The track that Rel uses and recommends works extremely well. I just used it to dial in my center channel sub. That wasn’t a typo. Lol

Here is the link.

Sneakers Original Soundtrack

Cosmo…Old Friend is the track.

I also use that track. Then I use a variety of acoustic stand up bass tracks from Brian Bromberg to make sure I am not muddying up the higher bass range.

A track that I’m aware of that goes low on two notes a couple of times is on a triple album by Christine and the Queens. The triple album is called Paranoia Angels True Love. The track is on the Paranoia album and is called Full Of Life (note you have to get to Paranoia on the triple album). Obviously there are also organ albums that have low notes but only large speakers will reproduce the two low notes on Full Of Life.

I’m not sure if it’s possible to “muddy” up bass in your system. It’s pretty extreme.

Holy smokes!! Used the Sneakers track 4 and got both RELs dialed in (different adjustments for each) and am blown away. All the amazing things I’ve read about the addition of a 2nd REL in various forums (esp this one) are true - I was thinking it all might just be hyperbole, but no - am blown away so am going through and listening to my go to tracks again like every time i get a new compoment that blows me away. Just put on my Wish You Were Here SACD and am gobsmacked. Can’t wait for my PMG DAC - might never need to make another hifi hardware purchase again! (ha! right?)

A couple people in this thread have mentioned height, which made me wonder if raising two subs off the floor would provide a good portion of the benefit of six (stacked three and three). (Whatever the subs rest on would need to be heavy and substantial.) This SubTrap sounds clever in that it both addresses height and absorbs excess bass.

The purpose of the height is to focus on different frequencies. The elevated subs do not cover the lower frequencies like subs on the floor do. The lower subs do not smooth out the upper bass frequencies like the elevated subs do.

Thank you! I did not understand this at all, and stacking makes more sense in light of this information.

Here is a 6 pack of S510’s from Axpona. The Wilson speakers were supplied by TMR. Strange coincidence.

It sounded pretty nice. Those particular Wilsons catch my attention every time I hear them. And six subs, well gosh! In a small hotel room those six subs couldn’t do all they could do in a larger room. Low bass frequencies have wavelengths that just can not propagate in that small of a room.

But still, it sounded very nice.
