Quite a nice set! It has not been too expensive in the past, but this is a great price.

Even with shipping it’s about $4/SACD! And they are fast—air mail from the UK. Mine should be here by Nov 8, about the same time as my new PSA Perfectwave Transport.

Thanks for the heads-up, Craig.

Dusty CD and SACD are both disappointing given the stellar sound that Atlantic had in the same era.

I listen to that “Dusty in Springfield” SACD all the time. It’s certainly not the best recording of all time but it is not nearly as bad as some of you make it out to be. The SACD is better than any other release I have heard including any of the vinyl releases I have heard.

A listener has to basically be a life long fan, and have some system consistency to really know an album inside and out with regards to all the versions, pros and cons, etc. It’s so different than setting up speakers correctly, knowing a mod, etc. it just comes from tons of experience with one album. You probably have it with this Dusty, and everybody believed you and bought it. Hell, I still give you the benefit of any doubt. And AP, like several other labels, is often a winner at such things.

Nobody made it out to be bad, iirc. I think the recent comment suggests the production should have been better considering other albums produced at the time.

I don’t need anyone validating my choices or recommendations. This AP SACD is in my top 10 of most listened to albums. It sounds great and is one of the best albums ever released. Period.

Well then, maybe not!

Intervention Records restocked the Billy Squier album I suggested on SACD. $30. There’s a bunch of Matthew Sweet too, if that’s anybody’s thing.

I overpaid for the Squier before more came through on discogs.

Cheers.

Happy to know, its not just me,

Good music. But again, the SACD just does not sound great – sonically.

I wonder if it improves upon any particular CD releases of the same material.

Cheers.

I bought the DSD download of “Don’t Say No” a few years ago, probably when Acoustic Sounds was still selling downloads. I assume it was probably sourced from the same DSD master as the SACD…?

Either way…love that album, and it really does sound good in DSD.

I think it’s a different remastering.

  • Mastered Direct-to-DSD FROM THE ORIGINAL ANALOG MASTER TAPES!
  • Mastered by Kevin Gray At CoHEARent Audio

Not expecting an eargasm, but I believe this is the best recording you will find.

And yes , great music that brings back some great memories!

Interesting choice.

Actually, it could be the same, @moburns92. I just have no idea. Does your download data say much?

Copper Magazine introduced me to http://www.importcds.com, and they have some good prices and solid selection. Enjoy!

The mentioned Muddy Waters SACD from AP is a top 5 in my current SACD stacks. Strong rec if you haven’t already.

Just came across this and have a couple of questions. How do are these sonically, and the performance as well? Seems rather inexpensive considering.

So I am going to ask the proverbial question that has been asked countless times. Which Kind of Blue SACD is the standout. I am considering this particular one at the moment, a 2015 reissue:

I haven’t received mine yet, so I can’t say definitively, but I’ve been pleased with all the other LSO recordings I’ve purchased on their “LSO Live” label. I also listened to a couple of minutes of the Qobuz hi-res streams of the set’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd symphonies, and liked what I heard there.
