You can’t undo compression or other such destructive mastering manipulations. Tone controls like one might find on a preamp, etc. are about the best you can do.

Why manufacturers stopped including tone controls with even
selectable turn over points in my .0002 has been a disservice
to the hobby as too many recordings are of such poor quality.
Sadly contain much of the popular music we enjoy.

Go on, give it a go, after all, the purist approach (whilst laudable) has got us to a position where a few albums are “unlistenable” for whatever reason in the source material and that seems a shame…
