Scott, I bought one of these last year and have never looked back. If you are doing this kind of work this will speed you up. The extra heat will get things done with less risk of overheating your boards and the speed alone is worth the price. The smoke suction is also nice!
Tips are durable. I haven’t used the hot air for anything but preheating and heat shrinking, but my understanding is that it will do surface mount. I haven’t got brave enough to try it yet. The desoldering tool is nice.
Been awhile (too busy listening!). Music just soars out of this thing ( the extension out to 50KHz might help where the 200asc started rolling off at 15KHz! )…
Get your popcorn ready. About to post something about the DL3.
I wish I remembered but it sure looks like they are ready to go. The Gain Cells were all fully balanced in and out, so there’s a very good chance you’re right.
Just about to purchase a 2 hand Trio C100 and would like to replace the old ICE modules with the updated 300ASC’s.
What is the price for the two new modules?
Regards
Peter
Haha, was just gonna suggest you sweet talk Paul for a pair... I got lucky on ebay back then and found someone selling a batch. Have never seen them for sale since.
Here’s a little touch I added: The Ice 300’s have [fault – over/under voltage – thermal – distortion/clipping alert] LED headers… routed those to the front.
Used yellow like the old Adcom “instantaneous distortion alert” Found perfect flush fitting LED’s like the stock blue, sunlamp bright so you’ll know they triggered and clear when off, looks clean. Here I’m turning the amp on/off –>
I just replaced my modules with the 300’s and I can’t get the cover back on because some of the components hit the volume control board when you try to close it.
WARNING don’t do this AUG2018 this is not perfectly plug & play. Need to trim things down (vol control board) to get the case to close, and remove the front LED panel (not as bad as it sounds) – mention in a buried post, but some people are doing this now. I’ll try to do a write up / video, maybe.
