UK vaccine

I’ll be taking it as well when it is offered. I assume it will be possibly second quarter. In any case, there is so much ridiculous propaganda out there. This is serious stuff and to have ex presidents / athletes signing up to get it - so we feel comfortable?? The need for this after what we have been thru globally irritates me. I appreciate people stepping up - but do not appreciate the ‘political’ science. Listen to the science. Whose science ? Science is now political.

I agree.
It seems lately that people attach the word science to any idiotic thought, assuming that’s all the validation needed. In my town, outdoor dining is prohibited but the liquor store, ice cream shop and nail salon are open for business—it’s the science, you know.

Sadly science has become just a word people use to try and bludgeon those practicing what they believe is wrongthink. And that’s not a political statement-EVERYONE does it now.

It’s a sad development in the ever deteriorating discourse.

Next up, anti-vaxxers and those who get vaccinated but then infect those who are not yet vaccinated…

God help us, God’s speed!

I live in Southern California. Restaurants are only open for takeout. Some places are plain blowing the governor off and having outdoor dining in violation of his mandates. Several of our California politicos have said how dangerous eating out was and were caught Dining out, doing exactly what they told us not to.

I can think of few instances where “drunk on power” has more gotten in the way of rational thinking.
And the French Laundry party demonstrates clearly that some folks just don’t have the embarrassment gene.

If the entire Covid Circus has taught us anything it’s that the “experts” and politicians are only slightly less clueless than the rest of us. I have not seen references to “the fog of war,” but this is a good example.

If you sift through what passes for news and information, the risk factors associated with a severe case of Covid-19 are pretty well established, and similar to those for “regular” influenza. Common sense rules are fairly simple and probability based:

(1) it’s relatively easy to classify yourself according to your probability of having a severe case if you do catch this thing - though not with 100% certainty
(2) avoid being in a confined spaces with other individuals for longer than 15 - 30 min.
(3) the smaller the group, the better
(4) masks don’t “work” in the sense that they are 100% effective, but they do mitigate the plume of exhaust we and others spew, so combined with the 6-foot rule and the above precautions, their use reduces the probability that you’ll be exposed to an infectious dose of virion particles. If they don’t work at all, why do surgeons and the like wear them?
(4) your Mom was right - wash your hands

It goes without saying that your specific life circumstances may make strict adherence to these “rules” difficult.

Personally, I ignore the experts, politicians, and conspiracy theory types and follow the above “rules.” It’s better for my sanity.

CO is back to no indoor dining, but here’s a clever winter work-around offered up by a local eatery here in Fort Collins. But I do wonder what the cleaning protocol is between service.

I could not agree more.

Stay safe.

Outside the building but that’s about it. Did everyone in America forget how to prepare meals at home? My wife and I haven’t been to an eatery since last February. I think we both lost 10 lbs. or more along the way.

They seem like the ‘possible’ side effects for virtually any vaccine. The possible side effects of catching Covid19 at my age are also nasty, and more probable than possible. I shall still be having the jabs as soon as I am allowed to.

Yeah, early March was the last restaurant date I had.

I lost a few lbs at the beginning, but i’ve been finding too much comfort in comfort food since summer. Lots of bread, pasta, pizza. Baaaaad.

Delicious, but bad.

And now it’s the holidays.

Who’s Bill Gates and where did he study epidemiology? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Gotta keep color on your plate young man!
Yes, it’s tough not to overeat at home especially with gray skies prevailing until March.

Based on Bill’s accolades, glasses and hair style, he has been awarded honorary degrees both medical and legal. So he’s cool. (no actual earned degrees)

Just one table per greenhouse, so these are for individual parties of two to four. Obviously no contact is possible with other guests.

CO Dept of Public Health publishes weekly stats on outbreak locations. At the peak of this wave just before going to “safer at home” protocols, school and daycare locations accounted for 27% of outbreaks, with inpatient and outpatient healthcare facilities accounting for 22% (these categories include nursing homes). So these two categories accounted for about half of the outbreaks. The “Bars, Restaurants and Entertainment” category accounted for just 9%.

Our current wave of cases took off the beginning of September with back-to-school and peaked just after schools went back to on-line learning. Jury is still out on the effects of the Thanksgiving weekend but two weeks after and the down trend is still intact.

I’ve read the “studies” about how schools are safe, etc., etc. , and how young kids don’t meaningfully contribute to the “spread,” but as someone who had actually raised kids and would regularly partake of whatever bug was circulating along with their curriculum, I’m calling BS on that.

In Australia the locally developed vaccine is scrapped as some test subjects produce false positive results in HIV tests.

It never occur to me the antibodies produced by a vaccine could interfere with HIV diagnostic tests, especially when there is no possibility the vaccine caused infection and all other signs were positive.

It is a fascinating world.

Small walking Petri dishes is another term I’ve heard used for small children. During the bring your kids to work days, I stayed far away from the shared food. Many of my co-workers got sick right after those events. Wonder why???
