Using My Oppo 205 as a Preamp for 2ch and 5.1

I’m looking to combine my 2ch and 5.1 channel system while eliminating the processor (Marantz Av8801) This scenario would make it much cheaper than upgrading the AV8801.

I have PSA 300 monoblock amps with the BHK preamp.
McIntosh MC207 7ch amp with Marantz AV8801 pre/processor
Oppo UDP-205 Blu-Ray Player

So essentially it would look like the below.

OPPO UDP-205 Front Right/Front Left XLR Output to BHK Monoblocks XLR.

OPPO UDP-205 Side Right/Side Left/Center (RCA) Output to McIntosh MC207 Right/Side Left/Center Input.

Would this work???

Looking at the Oppo owners manual I would say no. I don’t think the Oppo can be used like a Directstream Dac with internal volume control.

I suspect you can use the OPPO volume control and set relative volume levels of the speaker 7.1 channel audio outputs (rather than XLRs)

I don’t know what is meant by not upgrading the 8801 so maybe explain that?

You can probably feed a pair of outputs into the BHK preamp.

I’m looking to use my Oppo UDP-205 as a preamp for home theater replacing my 12 year old 8801.

I have since found this recently that explains how I can achieve this.
