Just in case you haven’t already seen it - how to improve upon (perfect?) the sexiest car ever built:
Well said sir.
Nice model plate…“GT”
My 2019 Porsche Cayenne S has less than 35k miles, and I just received the estimate for battery replacement. I was off saying $2k before. It’s almost $3.5k! That’s like $.1 per mile.
It’s not an EV even.
It is an silly expensive lithium battery. Labor is easy.
Porsche claims these batteries last longer, but plenty of people post they have had issues early on.
Problem is they code the battery serial numbers in the cars computer making it very hard for owners to replace the battery.
Just buy a normal battery.
Exactly!
The battery itself is over $2.1k, and it is always on “back order” in dealers. Then it needs to be “calibrated” hence the big cost. The service advisor give me a club member discount of 10% like I am supposedly be thrilled. Well, it is good for 4 to 5 more years, I hope!
I had a 2019 Cayenne S. I replaced the battery with a normal Interstate battery with absolutely no issues.
It’s located under the driver’s seat. It’s a simple job.
Go to “ECS Tuning” and watch their DIY video.
Oh! Too late for me! They are operating on it now. Do you remember what size of the battery you used?
That is a rip off. That battery is a special 48v however they also added extra terminations, test and put a numbered label on it when manufactured and tested. This is how they “calibrate it” I have done a few myself as I do have the proper tools and know how.
$ 738.92
No I don’t.
But I remember that it took me about 90 minutes, including some time to thoroughly vacuum under and around the seat. Plus I found about 50 cents in change which offset the cost.
I got zero codes after it was finished. I drove it another 40K miles until it was totaled while parked.
Thank you guys! I’ll keep the information if I still own it a few years from now.
Totaled while parked ouch!
I would ask them why they are charging so much for a $ 738.92 battery.
They checked the vin number and told me my battery is an expensive one (among 9 or 10 that they used). It could be total BS, but I’ll ask again when I pick up the car.
That is truly crazy. More cars are using AGM ( absorbed glass mat ) batteries because they have higher voltage output to help run all the extra features in modern cars. My wife’s Cadillac CT6V has the battery is under the spare tire. A replacement battery is about $275 and it is DIY R&R if you do not mind doing it yourself.
You have to be careful about charging an AGM battery. Only use a charger that is AGM ready.
The crazy thing about her car is the oil change. Because of the twin turbos it takes 2.5 gallons of oil! I am too old to crawl underneath a car to drain the oil and change the filter. While the car is still under warranty we take it to the dealer for service. The oil ( synthetic, of course ) is ~$10 a quart so an oil change ( with filter change ) is a $200+ event.
The car tells you when it needs an oil change and I assume it will tell us when the battery needs to be changed. Modern cars
Yes, i had it parked far away from other cars to avoid getting dings. I got a ding, alright. It was a front end loader carrying snow to the end of the lot. My car was white which I guess didn’t help.
This is the same as the dry sump engines in the Grand Sport and Z06 Corvettes. One needs to be prepared.
And the process of checking the oil level is a bit complicated.
BMWs require battery registration upon replacing the battery, but this is just to inform the car the size and type of the new battery so that it employs the proper charging regimen. For example, AGM batteries need a higher charging voltage as part of the charging cycle.
Freaking accident! Good thing no one got hurt.
