Last year had a chance to compare 96 and gibbon X. gibbon X has more realism and “oh it is there” feels, also a bit more colorful than 96. Surprisingly how neutral 96 is in comparison. My personal preference is leaning toward X. Before comparison the dealer said to me he thinks I will like X more since he sold me the gibbon 3XL. he was correct. However, gibbon X does require higher power power amp since its long travel woofer demands high current to get that tight base. overall ownership cost of X could be significantly higher than 96, which can be powered by low wattage amplifiers.

My path was to dip my toe in the SET pond, and the Gibbon was not a good fit. If you like the Orangutans then the Pure Audio Project speakers are worth an audition. The O/96 is no slouch by any means.

Absolutely, I like 96 a lot, this is the speaker I can live with for retirement and only feed music to it. I was thinking upgrade from 3XL to 96 using existing amp (First watt J2). Dealer told me his best seller of all DeVore is the 96s. John holds very high build standards and the fit and finish on these 96s are gorgeous.

Yes the First Watt J2 or Pass XA25 were on my short list, then I thought again about pursuing low power SET and more or less decided it was now or never. Glad I did it.

Take that mr Hendrix.

fast!

This is pretty durn cool. Grab a phone/iPad/laptop and slap on some cans, and stand somewhere you can turn around. Or sit in an office chair where you can rotate.

This one you can really parse the instruments easily:

Wonderful fun!

Remarkable intonation by Voces8, as usual.

Fun timing

Comes out April 22nd, one track on Qobuz now.

Takes a lot to blow Marcus Miller away…
Watch for his WTF expression and moving in closer to see how Healey’s playing.

Omar Hakim on the drums, Dr John on Keys.

Saw this back in the day,
recently discovered it on the Toob.

This is educational:

Even the last one sounds good, though the playability and portability of the instrument suffers somewhat. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Good stuff.

But he didn’t test cables. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Bit of an unexpected Rush cover:
