Hard to be hipper than Radiohead in the past decade or two. Ahead of the curve.

Awesome! One of the most blazing solos I’ve seen him do! Caught him quite by accident in a trendy Cafe in Victoria (BC) in 85 or 86, there was a 3 piece blues band playing blues covers. People dined, they played tucked away in a small corner. After a few standing up solos I realized - holy crep - that guy is blind. The following year his See the Light '45 came out. I still have it. It is a bit more raw than the CD version - I like it better. Caught him again at the Commodore Ballroom. This is the FIRST time I’ve seen him without his original bass & drummer. (Who I believe (?) he stayed with all his career) Poor audio/video syncing on the keys solo…!

I’ve always enjoyed music relying solely upon the human voice; particularly the hypnotic and soothing harmonies utilized by the world’s religions and traditional folk songs. I came across these three women from the Georgian Republic just prior to the COVID lockdown in 2020. They perform brief, harmonically delightful folks songs from various countries in the Caucasus regions. They do it all on a cellphone; capturing the flavor and culture of their country.

This recent video struck me on so many levels for its beauty, simplicity and honest emotional appeal. It also struck a resonant chord in me since I live in the largest Ukrainian enclave in NYC. A very lovely piece indeed.

I particularly appreciate the heartfelt lyrics, powerfully delivered. This cat knows the blues.

Why do you think jazz and blues musicians are so often referred to as ā€œcatsā€?

Exactly

That cat has more raw talent than all of this year’s Grammy nominees and half time show performers combined…
